Forums - Microsoft - What Happened To Velvet Assassin? IGN Reviews And Gives A 5!

I was hoping this game would've at least been "alright"

This is disappointing. I'm a big fan of the stealth/action genre, so it's sad to see that only Metal Gear and Splinter Cell get the backing they need to be great.

Was something good supposed to happen with Velvet Assassin I was supposed to be aware of? SouthPeak is a publisher that is the home of titles that other publishers reject.

I seen a TV preview of this game ages ago and I knew it sucked. Then I heard people comparing it to InFamous and some people even getting excited for it and I was like 'wtf'

This was actually the first MS platform game I was interested in buying this year, even with the total lack of buzz in the months prior to release.

Of course I was leaning towards buying it through Steam, but I can always wait until it goes on sale.

Curious to see what the Metacritic score will average out to.

SouthPeak I believe is a buzz killer.

Imagine the fun on here if this pile of poo outsells infamous... oh how i will laugh....

Sometimes its best to keep your powder dry people.....

I am not sure infamous is the huge game some people here seem to think... most people havent even heard of it.

And btw... just who are these xbox fans that touted this game as something big, I need to call them a therapist.

1- That's probably the most fanboyish thing I've ever heard you say. What would be good about a pile of poo outselling infamous (assuming it is actually good) other than the fact that one is 360 (console) exclusive and the other is a PS3 exclusive?

2 - and who the hell thinks inFamous is huge? I laugh when I see people who predict 400k for the games first week without waiting to atleast see how it is. Personally, I am so skeptical about that game that even the Uncharted 2 beta is not enough justification for a purhcase. I will wait atleast untill I try it out myself. Don't take what dumb fanboys say as the gneeral consensus of the Sony side.

OP - It's a shame to see such a low score for the game. It never looked amazing, but I thought it looked atleast a little fun. The story is apparantly non-existant so that probably means I will never try it. Personally, though, I don't remember many people bigging this game up.

IGN Review OPEN ME

Velvet Assassin could have been an interesting take on World War II by highlighting a facet of the conflict that's rarely covered by gaming. While it does bring in the secret agent angle, it also brings in a story that's completely thin and unsupported. Even worse, Assassin features flawed stealth action elements that can ruin the gameplay when they go awry, and only point out the hit-or-miss nature of the mechanics when they work well. If you need a stealth action experience, you'll probably want to look elsewhere

3.0 Presentation
Story? What story? The tale would've been better if it had a conventional narrative instead of an flashback format that's never explained.
6.5 Graphics
Violette isn't that fluid outside of cutscenes, there are a lot of technical issues and other visual detractions, like the flamethrowers or the seemingly cloned Nazi army, stand out.
7.0 Sound
Decent rise of music during action sequences, as well as British and German line delivery, but would Nazis actually say Lad or Arse?
5.0 Gameplay
When the sneaking mechanics work, they work rather well. When they fail however, they fail spectacularly. Flip a quarter whenever you load a game and you have the same success rate.
5.0 Lasting Appeal
The game is extremely linear in its approach, and once you beat the game, you probably won't go back and play this one again.
5.0
Meh
OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

Troll alert! Not a surprise considering who you are.  Anyways I am not going to shoot it down just yet. So it got a poor review from one reviewer I will wait to see what others give it. My guess is this is an average game which is ok by me. Either way I will check it out myself when I receive it from Gamefly.

I never expected this to be an excellent or huge. I just want to be able to enjoy it.

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

Says the guy with the link to a website that fired their chief editor because he didn't rate Kane and Lynch as high as Eidos wanted...

The website that claims that Assassin's Creed is better than Shadow of the Colossus, WarioWare: Smooth Moves is better than Twilight Princess, and Ninja Blade is better than Halo Wars.

The website that took three weeks to review Valkyria Chronicles.

The website that routinely reviews PS3 versions of games a week after reviewing the 360 version.

The website that expects to beat The Escapist for Gaming Webby despite all of this...
