Forums - Gaming - Does Motoi Sakaruba compose the same songs over and over?

Yeah, they tend to use a lot of the same instruments in their music, so it does sound the same.

Besides Sakuraba, Michiko Naruke (Wild Arms series), Koji Kondo (about everything) and Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears/saga) are my favorite composers.

No Nobuo Uematsu? ;__; He's awesome. Mine are Nobuo Uematsu, Koji Kondo and Motoi Sakuraba.

Those three are mine.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

'The True Mirror' and 'Leap the Precipice' sound uncannily alike.

The others all sound similar to each other to a degree, similiar tempo and instruments etc.

Not heard his music in Infinite Undiscovery ?

I liked it so much I bought the 3 disc music cd

I love the Infinite Undiscovery soundtrack! Soaring Blade and Blue Horizon are incredible (Recollections in the Water is also great).

The Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean: The Last Hope soundtracks use a lot of the same instrumentation with other occasional similarities, but it's all awesome so I don't mind

he works for tri-Ace but also does outsource work, he does all the music in all tri-Ace's games

Sakuraba does this all the time, he's been making music for like 20 years and makes direct references even in current games to work he's done all the way back on the PC Engine. There are more instances than I can keep track of.

Some of his stuff started sounding similar once he started dabbling more in the progressive rock around the SO3 era (which I wish he'd tone down, it's inferior to his previous work) but there is nothing that's the same unless it's a direct reference to another song of his. Generally this goes over the heads of lesser beings, or they simply won't accept it.

This man is a genius.

Bold 1: Agree. His orchestral stuff is much better.

Bold 2: Again, I'm not suggesting it's bad or anything. The instruments and feeling are very similar though. And Koji Kondo makes references to earlier work too (e.g. Zelda Fairy Fountain / SMB3 World 3 Map).

nope, shining force 3 is his best work

I just realized he also did the music for shining in the holy ark because the sound fonts sound very similar..

This is perhaps one of my favourite battle themes from him
