Forums - Gaming - Why is there damage in Forza but not GT?

if u remeber the damage in forza was rubbish.

even if you hit a wall at 150mph all that happens in a scraped bumper that slightly tries to fall off.

damage is gt5 will be coming but i hope its realistic and not like forza`s

Do you think the damage is actually good in Forza? I certainly don't; I always have it turned off in the options because it just looks rubbish, so I wouldn't really call it a selling point for the game.

I would just say, if they do introduce damage with Gran Turismo 5 and they bring it back for Forza 3, I hope in both cases that they don't do it half-heartedly. Go all out to make a stunning and realistic damage modelling and physics system, or don't even bother doing it at all - save some time and some money and give me both games a few months earlier as a result.

Although I agree with you that Forza 2's damage is unrealistic. It's clear that with it it's Forza 2 online>>>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>GT5 P online. GT5 P is derby racing online because of this. The benefits are clearly seen online with Forza 2 damage. The last thing you want for example is to use the guy in front as a brake because if you bugger your steering you will come in the bottom 2.

Hopefully in Forza 3 the damage is taken a step further. :)

Because Gran Turismo is realistic. So if realistic damage isn't possible why bother doing unrealistic damage like Forza?

Maybe because unrealistic damage is more realistic than no damage at all? I'm sure Gran Turismo as a series has improved both visually and gameplay-wise from the original to the fifth, wouldn't you agree? So since Polyphony couldn't get the most realistic physics model and the real world graphics on their first try, they never should have created the series right, because no graphics and no physics are better than unrealistic physics and graphics?

You gotta ask Yamuchi about that, he wants the real deal or nothing at all. He does not want the in between shit and he is so far up his own ass no one can change his mind. Shit happens when your franchise sell 50 million, what you say goes. :O

I always thought of the GT series as the beutiful car art i guess and damage would destroy that

^that's the reason why many people who play GT don't want car damage. Believe it or not. I also know people in real life who thinks the same and who aren't looking forward to the prospect of car damage in the full gt5.

Check out my game about moles ^

Yeah it is a very small minority of people whom give a shite about damage in GT5, if you go onto GT forums it's clear the real fans don't care for it. I mean come on the Prologue has done 3 million, it's pretty clear most don't care for damage and people are just saying it because it is the only thing Forza has which GT does not................a really shitty excuse for damage.

Why do people really care?

This is a genuine question. I'm not a big racing game fan, but I don't see why people care either.

I just recently got GT5: P and I must say that it's annoying as hell that I lose races to a friend because he plays bumper car all the time, skidding off the track, hitting the wall at an angle, and barely losing speed, while I try to follow the perfect line and have to slow down to get that next curve.

Sure, it can be fun to bump into each other sometimes, but to have 'no damage' decide the outcome of a race because of bumper car tactics is just annoying.

Some sort of wear-and-tear on the cars would be nice, so that people who bump the car get some disadvantage to their chassis or their tires or their steering or something... just SOME drawback to being the most reckless driver.

They still have time to implement something in GT5: P and check out the way people respond, to test-case it. In any case, to please both sets of fans, the option to turn off possible damage should be in GT5, but personally, I would love damage, because it changes the way (some) people drive in the game.

Here the people believe there will be damage in GT 5. And even in GT5 Prologue there will be through a patch but maybe the damage will only happen in the full game ? They have a Pic where you can see a destroyed car in GT 5 link: http://www.ps3blog.de/?p=8903

They say that not all cars can be crashed just a few manufacturers will allow this. The weird thing is that everywhere they say that in GT 5 will be damage.

Until now I thought it was confirmed. I think there will be damage in GT 5. I couldnt find any source where they say that it wont happen. Only that Yamauchi dont like to crash his cars but they are working on it.

Hmm I guess the Pic is a fake but nevertheless I still think we will see some damage in the final game.

Ok I found an Interview from April 2008:

Eurogamer: Du hast in einem Interview erwähnt, dass es bald ein Schadensmodell geben wird. Also schon in Gran Turismo 5?

Eurogamer: In a former Interview you said that there will be soon a damage modell in GT. Will it happen in GT 5 or do we have to wait until GT 6 ?

Kazunori Yamauchi: Its really difficult for us to implement a damage model in an apropriate PS3 quality. We have to pay attention to a lot of details thats why we arent sure about this yet. But we plan to implement the community features aswell as the damage modell with the big Update for GT5 Prologue.

I think they hadnt enough time to make this for Gt5 Prologue but for Gt5 they will.

That is a valid argument.  Bad driving should not win races.

But I could care less for Forza or GT.  Give me another Rallisport Challenge please.

For me, no damage pretty much means no sale for me for a simulation type game. It makes a big difference. If you have no damage and your racing an F1 car you can go bump into people and you don't have to pay the penalty of having your front spoiler destroyed.

I had a F1 game for the N64, and the game made you suffer if you abused the car. You could lose tires, spoilers, shocks, and you could just flat out total the vehicle and lose the race. Of course, if you could get back to the pit everything was magically fixed in 10 seconds, which I did abuse by cutting corners and then flying into pit lane and fixing everything on my schedule stop lap

anyways, onyx answered this thread already so whatever.

1. GT5p was released to fund GT5, it is not a full GT game.
2. GT5 has damage.

GT5p was released so the GT team could buy the cars, crash them, to see effects of damage.

GT5p doesn't have car damage because they do things right. They needed money to buy cars to see damage, they also needed to bargain with car companies, some won't allow it, some will, some require they do crash testing to show realistic damage.

There is your answer.
