Forums - Sales - PS3 Outsells The Wii In Japan 2 Months In A Row By Over 40K!!

trestres said:
@Euphoria: None of the games released that caused the PS3 to raise in sales were games made by Sony. Neither Sony nor Nintendo released any games so far this year that could move hardware. It was 3rd parties with RE5, Yakuza 3, SF4, Musou Orochi Z and FFXIII Demo that helped the PS3. Wii got crapped on by 3rd parties and that added to Nintendo not releasing a single meaningful game since last November made Wii lose a lot of momentum.

If both platforms would have received equal amount of big games, do you think PS3 would still be ahead of the Wii? I don't think so, because PS3 is only 10k units ahead of the Wii this year. And the Wii hasn't received anything worth buying since last year.

I agree though that Wii may never reach the level of sales it had before as momentum and popularity of the system has gone way down, but it's 100% sure that Wii will beat PS3 in sales again once third parties stop taking a dump on it and once Nintendo stops believing that 1 good game can carry sales for over a year.

Why is everyone ragging on the PS3 because of this? What I've seen from this thread so far by people trying to detract from this achievement (however small it may be) is: "The only reason the PS3 outsold the Wii is because good games got released"

Well...isn't that what's SUPPOSED to happen?

Well just to comment on the spring of comments to my original first.  No it doesn't mean it will recover 100%.  Actually I used sprained ankle for a reason.  I actually sprained my ankle when I was young and never recovered from it ever.  Went through having surgery and still a piss poor ankle.  Although I know other people who do it and a few weeks later get right back up.  The point was that the sprained ankle could just be a temporary setback or a life full inconveniences and pain.  Right now it looks like Wii is somewhere in the middle.

As trestres said and said later on as well along with myself, Nintendo has had this sprained ankle for awhile.  However, Sony has done nothing to capitalize it.  They have watched the emprie crumble to the ground and instead of executing the builders and supporters they have sat back and watched.  It's only been the 3rd parties, as trestres had pointed out, that has really given PS3 this edge as of late.  Without that, where would PS3 be right about now.  Because it's not doing so much better against a console that is at the bottom of its barrel right now.  Which goes to what trestres says, is how much longer does the luck last.

But you miss the point.  Wii is still the market brand leaer in the console sector of the Japanese market.  Meaning yes it is guaranteed to come back until someone takes it from them.  Of course not 100%, because no one hurts their ankle that bad and comes back perfect.

Nintendo and Sony have both been caught dumbfounded by everything that has occurred over the last 4 months in Japan.  Nintendo for some odd reason is unable to respond to an ailing console, even though they absolutely recognize it to be "unhealthy".  While Sony for the same odd reason has been unable to act upon the now unhealthy leader and attempt to come out on top before Wii recovers.  I don't know if it has to do with the current economic situation or lack of care considering the market share in Japan nowadays, but it is silly that both have been completely blindsighted by what has occurred.

So yea we've seen Wii and PS3 get these marginal "victories" and it's nice to celebrate them every now and then.  It's nice that PS3 for the first time in its cycle has outsold the Wii for 2 straight months.  But it has to mean something more to Sony to know that they have a chance to be an even stronger competitor instead of just a sprinter who gets a head for a moment while the other nurses its injuries.

So as I said congrats to PS3, but shame on Sony and Ninty for not taking the situation seriously.

I am sure if they could have Sony would have slashed the PS3 price to go along with all of those big releases so far this year.

@trestres

Oh yes, let us undermine their accomplishment because they didn't make those games. So first it Sony's fault for releasing more major titles than Nintendo so far this year in Japan and now it is Sony's fault that those devs decided to release those games on the PS3 and not the Wii.

"If both platforms would have received equal amount of big games, do you think PS3 would still be ahead of the Wii?"

What does that matter? Devs chose to not bring those titles to the Wii and instead bring them to PS3 so your "what if" comment is moot. The current situation is what it is, no point in second guessing now on what "could have happened if".

Sony themselves also have plenty lined up for gamers this year. They are only doing their job. The job I would want them to do anyways because it is the one that benfits me.

@trestres

You complain a lot about 3rd parties not supporting the Wii. Why not just get a 2nd system?

1.The Wii has already won in Japan

2.Worldwide it's still getting it's ass kicked, and will continue to

And that's just the problem, why not congratulate victories vs constantly acknowledging mishaps? Wouldn't you rather the market move forward?

You'd rather talk about RROD vs 30mill 360s sold? And 1mill of them are in Japan!!!

Yo'd rather bash the PS3 for losing in marketshare vs being excited for the games it has and will have?

This is what's wrong with gamers....period.

PS: The OP didn't write this article, all he's doing is informing. Why not be a gamer first?

where did i bash on the PS3?

all i'm doing is trying to say things how they are, the PS3 has won the last few weeks in Japan, ok good for it, but let's not forget it's getting pounded everywhere else, so before the  i let the fanboys celebrate(which is stupid as it's) i'm gonna wait for a real victory, not an specific one

and i'm glad the PS3 is doing well, just like i'm glad the 360 is doing well and the same for the Wii, all consoles are doing quite well this gen, but celebrating that one console is beating another one is fucking stupid and i dont like seeing idiots salivate over it

Around the Network
This is nice i suppose,but 2 months is nothing to 3 years,same goes for 360.

Wii still has MH3 and DQX.

And your sig's wrong.

Not everyone likes the same games as you.

So why is it that everytime a game like RE5 or SFIV or hell, FFXIII comes around as announced for the HD consoles and not the Wii, Wii fans (instead of just getting the console with the games they want to play) always come around to say "Why don't they put these games on the Wii?" or "They're ignoring so much marketshare, do they not like money?"

Not everyone likes the same games as me...I realize this. But the only quality games on the Wii that make a Wii purchase "worth it" are it's first party. But really, what is SMG doing that Sunshine didn't, if that's the reason the Wii is selling so much? What's Twilight Princess (a freaking GC port for crying out loud) doing that WindWaker didn't (since this was considered ther first Wii AAA title) that's making the Wii sell so much more than the GCN? What's Metroid Prime 3 doing that previous Metroids haven't, which helps boost the sales of the Wii?

These are the games that are always mentioned when someone says the Wii isn't "core".....but these are the same games that were essentially on the GCN and that system was in 3rd place.

You can say it has good 3rd party support...but the support for the HD twins dwarfs it. So what about my sig is wrong again?

Edit: the support for the HD twins dwarfs it, in terms of actual good games

Where am I raging about the PS3? I'm raging about deluded fanboys like you mostly. I already gave the PS3 the credit it deserved for beating the market leader on a weekly basis for the past 10 weeks. Point me at where I ever said the PS3 didn't achieve anything, you never read these kind of threds, you only troll and attack people. If you have read the previous threads BHR made you would have seen I was very critical with Nintendo and also congratulated Sony for each and every week it managed to outsell the Wii. What else do you want? Parties, Nobel Prizes?

And also, that it is supposed to happen, but Sony didn't have anything to offer themselves, they only relied on third party games. Nintendo didn't have anything either, but the difference is that 4 gigantic franchises from 3rd parties got released for the PS3 while the Wii didn't get a single important game in that time. When 3rd parties are that unequal, it's obvious that one party will end up losing. This time it was Nintendo's time to lose.

@trestres

You complain a lot about 3rd parties not supporting the Wii. Why not just get a 2nd system?

I'm not complaining about 3rd party games where I LIVE AND BUY GAMES that's why I own a Wii. It's Japan what we are analyzing here. I don't care what games they get or not personally, I'm only analyzing the reasons by which PS3 was able to outsell the Wii. The reasons are 4 huge 3rd party franchises were launched for the PS3 while the Wii got nothing.

And I'm not undermining the accomplishment, it's you who are saying Sony released those games with their studios, and you are lying. Sony didn't release any major title this year in Japan. Killzone 2 isnt even significant to the japanese market. So it's not Sony's achievement that PS3 is selling better than the Wii, it's 3rd parties that gave the PS3 an edge, added to the fact that there was no 1st party big game released by either side. Also the "if" situation matters, because whenever the Wii gets a game as big as the ones PS3 has been getting, or whenever nintendo decides to launch a big 1st party game things will be back to how they were last year.

Dont mix Japan with the rest of the World, Sony themselves have got next to nothing that is relevant for the Japanese market, so I don't care if it benefits you or not, because we are talking about the Japanese market, not the Western Line up.
