Forums - Sony - Sony right to not put a second stick on new PSP

yeah I don't think it would be that hard. Its not like the stupid "PS3 model without blu ray" rumour that would screw over the current 20 mil userbase. All this would do is force them to make a new control scheme for the new model.

If Sony thought a second stick was necessary, why havent they put a second stick when the PSP was created? Truth is, its not necessary and I dont think it will be necessary for Sony to add a second stick on their new PSP models.

The actual PSP2 needs a second analog stick, but it will have a new line of games and be a proper successor. I don't think it should be launched before 2012.

I just think that a second stick isn't needed at this point. When we do get a second stick, it will be on a brand new system.

What's the need of a second-analog PSP? Really the handheld is fine as it is. Its an portable walking machine with a ideal, replica of the PS2. Enough said, the handheld produces a good wealth of games around the standard analog stick. Some games make good use of the non-use of a second analog stick with fixed camera angles, some are horrible. Depending on the game you get some can work around and get use to not having a second analog stick i.e. Monster Hunter Freedom.

I think people want a second analog on the next handheld, not on the newer version of the current system.

Personallly, the one stick thing smelt a lot like Sony wanted to differentiate the PSP as being something other than a weaker PS2 on a smaller screen. Instead of doing something better (like Nintendo with Touch screen vs motion controls) they instead opted to make it definitively weaker. That's the problem with the PSP (aside from piracy of course), it's a weaker PS2.

By not differentiating their handheld product from the home console brother enough, Sony found itself in a tough spot, especially with UMD not lighting the world on fire (and thus, the PSP is an illegal multimedia beast).

What sony needs to do with the PSP2 is, if it insists on making it the weaker version of the home console, at least do it right. Dual analog sticks is a start. Also, focus on something other than "best possible graphics on a handheld". Nintendo pushed art style, and that's why a lot of the best games on the system are not the most technically beautiful of the system.

A fresh start is what the PSP2 needs.
