Forums - Nintendo - I just don't get it. Why won't Nintendo make another FPS for the Wii?

We've had MP3 and nothing else from Nintendo. The sales of that and COD: WAW were pretty good so why the reluctance? I have all 3 consoles but I didn't get the HD ones so I could play FPS on them and the "different" games on the Wii. Personally, the control scheme for MP3 was fantastic and could be used on other games?

Or is Nintendo convinced that expanding the market is the way forward?

Nintendo don't make FPS.

Metroid is the only one and it is basically Zelda but in first person rather than your typical FPS.

i think the Conduit will do it for now for them, no one really knows what nintendo is up to.

Nintendo is a Japan orientated company, hence it makes more social games (Miyamoto) and established franchised games.

Not to mention, NINTENDO IS INTO GENERAL AUDIENCE GAMES. If you think they are going to ruin their rep with Oprah, you must be nutz.

I'm just saying...

we also have New Play Control Metroid prime 1 & 2 coming out

Two reasons:

1. FPS games aren't the mass market appeal type games which suit Nintendos desired market in that they have limited appeal (Violence).

2. Third parties are better in this field than Nintendo.

Tease.

Internally, they have two developers proven at making FPSes, Retro, and NST, both American-based studios. Now Retro we know is working on a pair of new IPs, and NST has been dark for a long time.

Their other studios really haven't tried their hand at it.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

ironically, the Wii is probably the best suited console for shooters since it uses motion control. It's just a shame they focus on child/party games more than they do on games rated T-M

This would all be completely different if David Doak and his team hadn't left Rare and Nintendo consequently hadn't sold it to Microsoft. Given the departure of Doak and, more recently, the departure of the Stampers, I think Nintendo probably made a good decision with Rare.

Still, if Timesplitters 4 ever gets made, I hear Doak is interested in bringing theg ame to the Wii. Will it have the magic of Goldeneye/Perfect Dark...? I doubt it. But it would be a solid addition to the hardcore library nonetheless.

Yes, the lack of nintendo published FPS games on the Wii is totally to do with the expanded audience
