Forums - Gaming - When does "Hyping" become "Over-hyping?"

That is MARKETING.  Companies that promote their products, if they can get there, are winning on the marketing front.  I assume you have an alergic reaction to KFC carrying Guitar Hero meal boxes.

Overhype is when the hype exceeds what was was actually delivered by the game.

Overhyping: See FFXII "potions" being sold in Japan as drinks.

Say what you will but this is probably my all time favorite commercial !

dunno why but that ad reminds me of this old DC ad.

Just take a look at all the Killzone 2 threads before its release or all the Super Smash Bros Brawl threads before its release. That's overhyping.

Right now games like Infamous are getting just the right amount of hype. There are lots of threads about it but not too many.

i.m.o all "hype" is "over hype", not a single game has ever lived up to the hype it has got.

MGS4 did! I suggest you play it!

Been there, and done that, and didn't even get a t-shirt.  MGS4 is overhyped.  It is NOT the best game ever.  Worthy title on the PS3?  Yes.  But not all that.  Even if it went to the 360, it still wouldn't be all that.  Well, I guess if you like 20 minute long cutsceens used to conceal installing, then MGS4 is great.

The more you know
Hype for video games has been existence before most of you were born.
Example:

That is suckage with a large marketing budget.  Suckage with a large marketing budget isn't overhyping.  What it is, is a waste of budget for marketing.  Overhyping is when fans of a given system, and the media elevate what a game is to beyond levels it delivers on.

"Over-hyping" happens when a console's offerings is lacking in a specific gaming genre.

It happened with several RPG games on the N64.

The Conduit might end up as another good example of this phenomenon. Let's hope we're all wrong.

 Based on this definition.

Ps3 is considered by many as "Shooterstation 3", if that's the case why was Killzone 2 considered "over hyped?"

By many where?  I have never heard that before today.

A couple years ago, terms like "FPSbox" and "Halobox" were commonplace descriptions for the 360 and its little brother.  In fact, after the PS3 came out, a lot of people were bragging that the PS3 "had more than shooters."  The PS3 hasn't even really been in the ballgame against the 360 for shooters until R2 and KZ2 came around.

heh, sorry. I originally hail from Gamefaqs, most 360 trollers like to mention that the 360 now has all the RPGS and ps3 is now shooty tastic. Started around the release of Resistance 2 and they didn't let it go till recently.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Ah okay. It's amazing how some internet communities can be so similar yet so different.

I hope that 500+ post count means your enjoying vgC's though.
