Forums - Sony - Sony orders 250,000 PlayStation 3 awareness brochures

http://www.playstatic.com/news/832

“lavishly produced 60-page perfect bound, matt laminate”  sounds like something worth checking out.

speaking of which, haven't seen a ps3 commercial in a while.  marketing push begins for the big x'mas season!

the Wii is an epidemic.

well i've been seeing loads of heavenly sword commercials.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Interesting...well whatever Sony wants to increase awareness is probably better for them. I find it interesting that the writer says the PS3's lackluster performance is likely to all change through Christmas and early '08 with its big games...but hey, who knows, maybe things could turn around for the PS3 by middle of '08 or so if it sells very well...

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Depends vastly on the writer's idea of a turnaround, no doubt. If the PS3 becomes profitable in the near future, I think that'd count as a turn around even if Sony can't take over the market.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

I've always thought that one of the ps3's biggest problems was marketing.

Most people have absolutely no clue what the thing can do. They just look at it as a $500 game console, and wonder why it costs so much more than everything else. Commercials with floating babies aren't doing a thing to educate the average joe.

Sony needs to start making commercials that are short, simple, and very informative. Basically, they need to say "This is what the ps3 can do (blu-ray, upscale movies, media center, ps1/2/3 games, etc.), and this is why it costs so much, now look at all these awesome exclusive games," then cut to a bunch of flashy clips from games like Uncharted, R&C, and KZ2, ending with the words, "Only on PlayStation 3."

Maybe they should make a similar ad focusing more on the Blu-Ray playback of the ps3 as well, cutting to scenes from exclusive Blu-Ray movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and others, ending with the words "Only on Blu-Ray, now on PlayStation 3."

That'll educate consumers on the product more than 60-page brochures that nobody will probably read.

Also, if the pamphlets were ordered by Sony UK, why is the article telling us to wait for the October NPD numbers?

I want one, how do i get it.

makingmusic476 should work at Sony. Those are better ideas than anything that has come from them.

I don't think the brochure strategy is as good... I mean, your average joe is not an avid reader, and is too lazy to read 60 pages.

So that's what Sony needed the $2.9 billion for.

Boy do I need the money.  :P

At this point, I'm afraid I'll only be able to get SSBB, SMG, and one other game this holiday. Whether it will be Uncharted, R&C5, or Heavenly Sword I can't decide. :(
