Forums - Sony - Who thinks Sony will switch to Holo Discs?

I for one, hope they do not. They spend all the time trying to get blu ray working with the Ps3, pushed the launch back because of it giving the 360 the early release date. Blu ray discs have 25 gb of data and games are taking years to make as it is. Let alone if they 500gb. Develpers would become even lazyer with compression.

Im i dont know about you guys, but i would rather have a console that runs the games smoothly instead of having frame rate drops all over they place. Its much more fun when you have quick loading times to get into your game.

Im sure M$ and Sony have already started making Ps4 and 720. They would have already desided what drive that there putting in their console. If they havnt i hope they deside really soon. With people thinking that the 720 being released in 2012 there would be that chance of another RROD problem.

Thanks for reading guys what do you think?

I don't think the prices will be feasible by the time they would want to release the PS4. If games can still fit on DVD discs now, BluRay or some other cheaper medium should be good enough next gen.

Hornets lost tonight.

They wont honestly all the money that was lost during the PS3's lifespan will force them cut costs on the PS4 so they can introduce it to a mass market price.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

This gen I know of only one game that has used a 50gb Blu-Ray to the fullest and that is MGS4 I think all that extra space is unecessary plus I read somewhere on this site that 500gb Blu-Ray disc are being tested. So I doubt that $ony will be jumping ships any time soon.

The problem with Holo discs is just like anything. They 'expect' that they 'might' be able to get the price down 3 years from now. That's a lot of variables. Blu-Ray will be the primary format next gen almost assuredly. Will next gen consoles use it? I'm not sure. I would guess they would, unless Sony gets some substantial chunk out of them doing so.

I think your first 2 paragraphs are good, you make a valid point, why change something you've already invested so much in. But your 3rd one is painfully stupid and ignorant...RROD on next xbox?

2 out of 3 aint to bad

i meant problems like RROD i didnt mean the next Xbox will had RROD. I was saying if they put the holo in the next Xbox it might push them to make errors.

They didn't absorb a $250/console loss at launch to help Blu-ray win a format war, just to dump it when the next format comes along. Sony will hold onto Blu-ray for as long as they can.

SONY will not support holo-disks unless they start overtaking blu-ray in markert share (which is unlikely if they only 'hope' to get them viable for mass manufacturing by 2012....). One of the reason SONY supported Blu-ray is that SONY earns royalties per disk sold while they won't for holo-disk.
