I played two games late last year that really made me stand back and say to myself wow that's a bit too much. I'm a grown 23 year old man and I have never been squeamish around blood... that said last year I played through Silent Hill 5 Homecoming for the first time and came to a part in the game where my character is actually tied to a chair and has holes drilled in him with a power drill in the end the woman torturing him actually puts the drill into his eye literally left me saying wow...Why would they take this so far this is a game I'm sure a few kids got there hansd on and I think it was a bit much....
The seccond game I was playing was Dead Space also had a M rating Dead Space is perhaps my faviorte multi platform game really is amazing but they totally went overboard on gore its a game I don't play when my daughter is staying with me and my old lady. Anyway's there's a part in the game where you fight this massive space rhino thing can't remember the right name you get an achivment pt for killing it. and if you loose the fight it literally picks you up and tears you limb from limb.... again I was like wow that's going a bit overboard. All that said violence in videogames dosent bother me greatly per say buy was thinking why does America censor the sex scenes but almost promotes the violence. Like violence is perferred over sex....something most of us have on a daily basis....anyway's out parents had it there parents had it..God forbid one day out kids will be having sex too

. Why does it remain such a taboo subject in America like its bad for you or something?
I remember a few years back there was a big explosion when Rock Stars made a game GTA SA which had a simulted sex scene and the game had to be remade before it was re released really left me saying wow was that necessary? A game where you can use chainsaw on a pedestrains and the only thing congress wants changed is the oral sex scene????? I would like to see a game done right... Not like those stupid anime Japanese video games those freak me out badly for some reason....
I look at a game like Heavy Rain which is coming out on the PS3 it really does seem like it has potential to take adult gaming in the right direction... I played Indigo Prophcy back on the original X box, was a pretty unique game, had a few violent scenes but nothing over board..... What held Dead Space back in my opinon and I know a lot of people will disagree with me bu the game had way too much gore coouldn't eneter a room without finding body parts strewn all around the floor. Literally walking over dead bodies. The game was scary not heart attack scary but was chill inducing.
I'm not writing this post to say developers should start putting pornographic material in videogames. Just the comparison between violence and sex I think one is a natural part of life and is almost completely blocked In American media....the other one is a destructive force and goes by almost completely uninhibited.
