Personally, I think that would be a huge mistake on the part of MS.  IMO, they'd kill confidence in their brand if they released yet another system only 4-5 years after the previous one just like they did with the 360.  On the other hand, for people like me who haven't yet bought a 360, I could skip it altogether and pick up the new one and catch up on the 360 library that way.

A huge mistake would be putting it lightly. Unless, of course, the "new Xbox " would be a handheld. Then it would only be a minor mistake. Unless its good :)

I don't know how many PR reps have said that the 360 will be out "as long as the PS3", ad nauseum.

NextBox i expect to be a Christmas 2010 release.

I for one hope the xbox sticks around longer this time. There's so much Microsoft can do with the 360 this generation.

360 slim? Probably.

Some small add-ons? Maybe.

720? Not a chance. Zero. Ziltch.

Blizzard has already said that MS has come to them to ask what they would want to see in the next Xbox...Besides Blizzard i can't confirm that MS has talked to Other companies about this, Blizzard was asked questions for feed back purposes and MS bounced Ideas off them....They discussed such things at a Luminaries lunch and GameInformer magazine is the source....

Yes he's wrong. No company will launch a new console in this economic climate, especially one that we expect to be a loss leader if they continue with a similar strategy to their first 2 consoles.

360 sales haven't even peaked yet, or if they have we certainly aren't seeing it yet. It would be stupid to even suggest undermining a product that has not yet met its full potential in this way. This is especially so when the product has not even hit the final stages of cost-cutting. Let alone other issues, like the recession.

That said, I see a nearly 0% chance of a new Xbox being announced this year.

Not going to happen. 2010 announcement is much more likely.

Hmm.. if M$ won`t release x720 by then end of 2010, they won`t be able to win next gen war,
since if they release x720 by the end of 2011, Sony may retalate with PS4 in 2012, AND After seeing how GREAT PS3 performed in 2009, 2010, 2011 at 299$/199$ price, people after so much hate will more willing to wait for PS4 release at 399$, BECAUSE PS3 delivered with KZ2, GT5, GoW3, U2 and many other visually stuning games.

Moreover, THIS time, i`m sure, Sony won`t mess with PS4, so there won`t be PS4 hate(probably), it will be VERY powerful system because:
a) it won`t have something like RSX, which was put into PS3 at the last moment.
b) developers will learn how to program on Cell, which will be VERY powerful and advanced.
Moreover, we can expect PS4 at 399$ or even 299$ in 2012.

AND it will be VERY hard for x360 to fight against 299$ PS3, even 199$ x360 Pro may not help. After all, it`s all about games, and in 2009-2010 we get on PS3 games like:
Yakuza 3, Demon`s Soul, KillZone 2, Heavy Rain, Ratchet:CiT, GoW3, FFXIII, FFXIIIv, GT5, Ico 3, Uncharted 2, Infamous, Fat Princess, Flower, Quantum Theory, MAG, Eye Pet, WKC, NGS2 and many other High Profile PS3 games.
