April 28, 2009 - Xbox 360 gamers might be pleased to know Namco Bandai is bringing a new role-playing game, Magnacarta 2, this year exclusively to Microsoft's console. Built using Unreal Engine 3, the sequel is being developed by SoftMax, the studio responsible for the first Magna Carta: Tears of Blood, which was released back in 2005 for Sony's PlayStation 2.

Magnacarta 2 will follow a new, original story set in the world of the war-torn Lanzheim Continent and involve a male character named Juto, who cannot remember his past. The game will contain character designs by Korean artist Hyung-Tae Kim, and will include fully-voiced CGI cutscenes to deliver parts of its narrative.

For its battle system, the game will mix strategic turn-based and real-time elements. When heading into a fight, there'll be no loading screen -- everything will happen in the same environment, bits of which can be used by players in battle. During a fight players can freely switch which party members they're controlling, and customize the AI of those which aren't being directly exercised. There'll also be a free-roaming camera implemented to make it easier for players to scope out the game world.

Namco Bandai is saying the title will provide over 40 hours of gameplay, and handed out a few more specific gameplay details. Players will earn Kamonds by beating up monsters that can be applied to power up weapons and generate new items. With each weapon comes a different style of fighting, which, according to Namco Bandai, will offer a set of special abilities tailored to the weapon. Some of the special abilities will require timed button presses, and once a powerful over-drive mode is initiated, players can smack around foes with their most formidable skills. To add more variety, an elemental magic system called KAN can be used during fights and to manipulate objects in the environments.

The battle system mixes real-time elements with turn-based strategy.

That's what we've got for now, so if you haven't already, head out over our video page to see the game in motion or our image gallery for some new screens and art. The current release window is the third quarter of 2009.

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

So what do people think? I think the VO is ok nothing terrible but not the greatest either. The story is sounding better imo now as well.

Hmmm looks awesome ^^

Now it's time to wait another year for a port... =)

Much better now, hopefully the battle system works. Still wondering why they picked the 360 for this one. I just find this one strange, than again star ocean 4 was a strange choice as well. The others weren't that big of a deal because they were new ips!

The male protagonist lead's voice is decent, but the women's voices are horrendous. There should be a law forbiding JRPGs to use english VA. Other than that, the protagonist looks somewhat cool, and the story didn't seem like anything special, maybe with another trailer that'll change

Um...ok? Whatever you say dude. This isn't a port of any kind and it's an exclusive so whatever.

So there's something strange about a good rpg series having a game on 360? It may not be huge in Japan but neither is the PS3 and hardcore games don't sell by the bucketload on the Wii. IT's America that's the most important region this gen followed by Europe so it's not like it made no sense. They could have put on PS3 but it wouldn't have made any more sense then on 360 considering it's userbase is close to 10 million less than 360's. So I ask you what was so wrong about this game or SO4 being on 360, other than not being on your system of choice I might add?

My personal theory is that after the first game they decided they needed to switch to a different user base so that they could find some new suckers.....errr......fans.

...

I'll buy this if it has dual audio. Or isn't region locked.
If not, I'm waiting for port, whether it may come or not, it's not a huge deal of a game.

Looks good, hopefully it's a timed exclusive so I can play it lol
