Forums - General - Create-A-Game I Year 2007

Oh yeah, does the game have to have a story or can it be just the game play mechanics??

I have three game ideas in total:

1st -

Console - Wii Downloadable Wiiware (1200 points???)
Developer - Unknown
Genre - Puzzle
No. of players - 1
Working title - "Domino Effect"

Game Idea: -

Basic Introductory level

Play area can be switched between top down view and free floating camera.

Players must lay out 20 dominos in the play area (A designated start and end area) so that when the first is pushed over, all 20 must colide to fall over with the last one needing to fall into/onto the designated end area. Once achieved, players progress to next stage.

As each level progresses the tasks get harder.

* More Dominos Required
* Pop Baloons
* Switch on lamp
* Scare Cat
* Etc

As levels progress, players unlock special items.

* Seasaw
* Spinning Block
* Escalator
* Elevator
* Leavers
* Baskets
* String/Ropes
* Lamp
* Different sized Dominos
* Pins
* Other Equipment

These items can be used in game to complete particular tasks. (Pins used to pop baloons).

50 or so levels.

Unlockable modes:

Free play - Players can arrange a room and use unlimited dominos and equipment. Video playback of Level can be shared online to show off your creation.

Game 2

Console - Wii Downloadable Wiiware (Wii to DS compatible)
Developer - Unknown
Genre - Turn Based Strategy/Board Game
No. of players - 1 to 4 (DS or Hotseat)
Online Capable - Yes
Working title - "None"
Progression: - Skirmish based

Game idea: -

Playing board

7 x 7 gridded play field. (small)
11 x 11 gridded play field. (Medium)
15 x 15 gridded play field. (Large)
19 x 19 gridded play field. (Huge)

1 Player and 1 - 3 AI
2 Players and 0 - 2 AI
3 Players and 0 - 1 AI
4 Players and 0 AI

Resources

Players are spread out equal distances on the playing board. Each players starting tile is their Headquarters. The HQ tile provides 1 Gold and 1 Wood per turn. All other tiles are filled with different resources:

Gold
Wood
Stone
Steal
Village

The further out from the players, the higher the resource value is. (2 Gold, 3wood, Mixed resource tiles, etc)

If a player captures a village tile, they will recieve a "Random Event" bonus resource. They can save this up and use at different points in the game.

Spend 5 random event points get 1 random even:

* Gain 5 Gold
* Gain 10 Gold
* Gain 1 extra worker
* All Military Units + 1 EXP
* Village riots - Loose 10 Gold
*etc. - Many good things, some bad

Spend 10 Random event points get 1 random event:

* Gain 10 Gold
* Gain 20 Gold
* Gain 1 Swordsman
* Villagers build wall
* Villiage riots - Loose 1 random Building
*etc. - Many good things, some bad

Spend 20 Random event points get 1 random event:

*Gain 20 Gold
* Villagers attack X enemy destroying X building/Unit
* etc. - Many good things, some bad

Units

Worker - Costs XX gold to build. A worker can capture a tile. Once tile has been captured, worker is consumed by that tile. Tile becomes players land and will gain whatever resource it holds each turn. Captured tiles must be connected to players land.

Swordsman - Costs XX Gold and XX Steal. A Swordsman is a Military unit.

Archer - Costs XX Gold and XX wood. An Archer is a Military unit

Spy - Costs XX Gold. A Non-Military unit used to spy on opponent resources, units, buildings, etc.

Many other Units go here...

Buildings

A player can build 1 building per tile (Apart from the Wall) which has been captured. If a player has captured 4 tiles they can build a maximum of 4 buildings, until they capture more tiles.

Marketplace - Costs xx Gold, Wood, Stone, Steel. Increase total gold income by x 2 (Max 1)

Wood Mill - Costs xx Gold, Wood, Stone, Steel. Increase total Wood income by x 2 (Max 1)

Steel Mill - Costs xx Gold, Wood, Stone, Steel. Increase total Steel income by x 2 (Max 1)

Research Lab - Costs xx Gold, Wood, Stone, Steel. Allows the research of stronger units/buildings. (Max 1)

Wall - Costs xx Gold, Wood, Stone, Steel. Slows down enemy from entering your land. (Max = Land)

Tower - Costs xx Gold, Wood, Stone, Steel. Provides defense for players land (Max 5)

Many other Buildings go here...

Game play

Each player starts off with 1 HQ tile, 10 Gold and 10 wood. They take it in turn (hotseat - Unless it's 1 Vs AI or if online or played through DS download play, all players take turns simultaneously - Will explain this feature soon) to decide what action they are going to take. (Build Units, Buildings, move units, etc). Once all moves are made, player ends turn. An option of a 1 - 5 minute time limit is available.

At the end of everyones turn All resources are calculated and added to the players total. Everyone continues with the next round and so on.

If 2 opposing players units intersect, they will battle it out for dominence. The battle turns into a Final Fantasy esque challange where players must choose their fighting options. (Attack, power up, use item, flee, etc). Up to 5 units can be joined together to form an army. Once one player has been defeated, the loosing player looses all units while the winning players units gain EXP which may increase their lvl thus increase their Attack, defence and health points. - A maximum of 5 armies per player can be on the playing field at any one time. All extra units built will have to remain in the HQ until they are joined with an army, or an army is defeated.

If a player enters an oppositions land, and the opposition has Tower defence Buildings (Does not matter where towers would be built), both players will go into a battle. If the attacking Army defeats all Tower defence buildings, they enter onto the oppositions land. The attacking player then has the option (on their next turn) to steal the tiles recourses, Destroy captured land (Land will need to be recaptured and any land that gets cut off from the HQ will not gain player any resources until it is reconnected), or move towards the opposition HQ to try to capture it. If the Tower Defence Buildings defeate the invading army, they do not gain any EXP.

If a player attacks an opposition HQ, any units inside the HQ (Max 10) will enter into battle with the attacking army (max of 5 in any battle). If there are no defending units or the attacking army defeats all units, the attacking player captures the HQ and the opposing player is out of the game. All land the opposing player had is reset and the Attacking Player can now build out from both HQ's.

The point of the game is to destroy All oppositions HQ before they destroy you.

End - Will update with more info at a later date.

Also, Soriku, I think you need to be more specific for the Rule of the game... For example, how many games one player is allowed to post, whether unlimited, a certain amount or one. Create a scoring system while you are at it. Something like, vote for the best game for each genre, and vote for the best of all games. Since it's only ideas, some games have certain strong points and weak points, cuz let's say, for example, a story would be most likely more significant in a RPG than in other game... (Sorry if I haven't my post clear and ignore any points you don't find worthing)

 There's some good points there.  Scoring in different catigories as well as an overall is a great idea.  Some more clear rules are needed but I don't think you should limit ideas to things such as who should develope the game or story/characters as many games genres do not have story/characters or for instance, I have no idea what puvlisher would be good to develope my game ideas.

I think there should be guidlines something like:

Genre
No of Players
Online
Name of Game
Developer
Game Idea
Story
Mechanics
etc.

But don't have them limited by saying you MUST have a story or choose a Developer.

I also think allow us to create multiple games as long as they are differencial from one another (Perhaps 3 in total?) like my three. I have one Puzzle, one Turn Based Strategy and one Mixed Genre.  All three are compleatly different from one another but I would like to share all three and not pick just one and have to hold onto the others till next year.  That's my thoughts anyway but of course this idea is totally yours and up to you.

It's me...  no really, it IS me!!!

Yes, but we should hand it to someone else. The thought of leaving those to Soriku's hand seems, err.. dangerous?

Also, Soriku really does finds bad times to create his good threads as of late. We are being hacked right now and many people choose not to go on the site, giving the potential members that play far less...

Wait for my game, let me play a lil' more to get inspiration. Is about an Italian Plumber who eats mushrooms and kills turtles and dragon-turtles to save a princess with the name of a fruit. Wait until I perfect it and I will post it.

^ oh you know, that game sounds like it'll be kinda cool. Perhaps, for a full on twist to the plot, the plumber can have a brother.

It's me...  no really, it IS me!!!

Name - "One Great City" or "The Urban Reclamation Project"

Genre - Sandbox adventure

# of players - 1

Developer - ... My imaginary studio that's really cool

Game Idea -. The fundamental idea behind my concept is based around an evolving and often changing world. At the beginning the game is a very simple GTA style nature, with a city that isn't as large, but allows you to go inside most buildings. But I'll get more into that in a sec

Story - our protagonist *you, but we'll call him Harjit* Is a University student in the city. During a walk to school, his friend convinces him to make some money on the side through some less than noble methods. Harjit reluctantly agrees and skips class. The game starts with him doing some small time fetch missions. Delivering pot for his friend, smashing a car window of someone that didn't pay, that sort of thing. After a few petty crook missions, one of the deals goes bad, and Harjit get chased by a gang.

The Pursuit (in a fun little chase mini game) leads into a central park. The gang eventually catches up to Harjit in the forest, But before they can attack the poor guy, Something happens, a tree in the park comes to life and begins thrashing the would be attackers. With the gang scared and scattered, the tree, allows a branch to fall from it. This is Harjit's first item, a living Whip like branch that can be used to attack enemies, grab items, traverse various areas and perhaps be used in some very novel ways.

From here the true adventure begins. Harjit's first goal becomes figuring out why there's a living tree in the park, this might lead him to the police station to report it, the hospital to see if anyone from the gang checked in or even to the Universities research facilities. But as he progress in the game, we find that there's something wrong with far more than just the tree. Through out the game, various buildings and objects will begin to alter. For example.

- Buildings will turn into Volcanoes, allowing you to walk through their rooms of lava flows and cubicles.

- Forest will reclaim streets and sometimes even buildings, with giant tree's poking out of the sides of skyscrapers.

- Subways will still function, but you'll always wonder if you're hearing an incoming train or a giant wurm beast.

- The public pool will poor forth geysers of water which hang suspended in the air (mid air swiming levels!)

- Spell books will appear in the library.

- The cities amusement park will spill out into the city, with rollercoasters wrapping around buildings.

- strange creatures and beasts will begin to populate the city.

And a great many more fantastic transformations will occur througout the course of the game. The constantly changing nature will allow for plenty of new discoveries and puzzles.

One interesting feature is that regardless of how weird and dangerous the city gets, the people stay in it. Through your conversations and observations, you'll find that they all feel strangely drawn to the city, and would rather adapt to their new situation than move.

over the course of the game, we eventually uncover the Cities origins. Some mystical force drew people to that spot to form a city, but the development and concrete shut that mystical power in. Now, someone is trying to weild the power for their own gains, and it's causing that force to leak out and reclaim the city (I just thought of this game now, so forgive me if the backstory isn't fully flushed out yet)

Asside from beating the bad guy of course, the point of the game won't be so much to restore the city to it's pre -mystical self, as much as it will be to to subdue the more negative elements of such a crazy new environment.

The main draw for me to this game idea would be the constant changing nature of the world. But I think it would appeal to most people that like sandbox style gameplay but wish for something a little more original. The chances to mix the magical with the mundane provide a lot of potential. Think: Guy in a business suit cursing traffic as he plays his lute to steer the Giant Bison he's riding through downtown streets kind of stuff.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Very Very nice.  Interesting and origional it is indeed.  I'm already wanting to play it!  Why didn't you start the development of this game years ago damn it!

Anyway, good read.  Nice story idea. look forward to hearing more, if you write more to it that is.

It's me...  no really, it IS me!!!

^Totally agreed. Not only that, he's more detail about the interaction between the story and gameplay. What happens and what you play there, and whatnot... Anyway, 5 players and 6 games so far...
