Forums - Gaming - Square Enix: We take too long to make games

No one responding to my post fallaciously proves my point that SE doesn't make anything other than DQ, FF, and FF spinoffs. :P

They pretty much do -.- I can't believe people are doubting that SE WON'T make a re-make to FFVII. They've raped the game so much, it'll be strange for them not to milk it completely dry. I hope that after DS, they can't rely on re-releasing old titles, and focus on being more efficient and effective (as some argue) in their game development.

From what I've read, the Last Remnant suffered from a plethora of technical issues and minor gameplay flaws that held back what was a pretty good concept. Seemingly the game was rushed. Do they want to start doing this with all their titles?

Then Square will be just like every other Western developer!

Like Naughty Dog, Epic Games and Infinity Ward, that can make fantastic games while staying within the time frame of a two year period. There's really no reason why we have to translate what that SE dude is saying to mean rushing the games out the door. From the looks of it, he sees it as more of a management issue, and cracking down on being more efficient. There's nothing wrong with that, and there's no reason to think Square can't get on a better schedule with making deadlines.

If it's the head of Square talking, then his project managers are likely giving him deadline projections they can't keep, and he's getting tired of it. I want to do good work also at my job, but I do the best work I can in a manageable amount of time, so I don't fuck up deadlines. Square had no issues two generations ago making deadlines, making more games, and them being of at least the same quality as they are now if not better.

No wonder. They have way too many projects going simultaneously. S-E has grown too large for their own good. Scale down, put out a few solid titles a year, and they could maintain their reputation as premiere RPG developer. The name alone still pulls a ton of weight, but they're at high risk of losing their prominence if they don't get shit together.

It's all about the game.

Yes you can point out the exception of greatness, but most western games are rushed, buggy, and completely unpolished.

I heard Uncharted was good, and Uncharted 2 looks promissing...

Despite the complaints about the story, character, and online, GeoW got a lot of praise.

I don't know anything about Infinity Ward =/

So they take a long time to make games, and take a long time to figure out they take a long time to make games.

Perhaps they should change the name to Square Entish

I see what you did there TWRoO. And I like it.

I could care less about which company we're talking about, but because you used Ent... classy!

As far as im concerned, if they keep releasing games with the greatness that is The World Ends With You, they can take however long they want.

(now if only dissidia could be ported over to the 360...god that game is sexy).

@Smeags
i appreciate that. cause his comment went right over my head. or um.....under, my feet, if you prefer.

um..stuff

So are most Japanese games. I tried to use exceptional western developers to make my point because that is what Square Enix are supposed to be. They should be the kind of place where teams can stay on schedule, push out a game every two years, and make them great and polished.

@akvod-Infinity Ward is the development team behind Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and the upcoming Modern Warfare 2.

Lol. Is Modern Warfare THAT good? I really feel like I'm missing out on something huge. I'm planning on buying MAG over MW2 too =P
