Why is the genres in this thread so open ended? Isnt it supposed to be split up into sub genres like this

Fighter

Shooter

FPS

TPS

JRPG

SRPG

Because splitting things into 500 different sub genres is retarded?  Before long we'll be saying x game is the best in 4 genres because it's a TPS JRPG Strategy Platformer since it's in third person, has jumping, a leveling system, and requires some sort of forethought.

I am guessing he is referring to Punchout but there are so many terrible fighters on the Wii. Castlevania Judgement, Ready to Rumble: Revolution, and Facebreaker K.O. Party. Granted, these are available on other consoles but the other consoles have various other fighting games.

Well if you're counting future fighters, then how about King of Fighters XII and BlazBlue?

And I forgot about Battle Fantasia and Dead or Alive 4 in my intial post.

Very much so. I've played quite a bit of SC4, and I loved SF2 back in the day. (What's UNS btw?) but they are nothing on Brawl.

Ultimte Ninja Strike (I think that's what UNS is) was just bad.  It was pretty to look at but the fact they did the whole asine city thing just made it a bad game.  Street Fighter 4 and Soul Calibur aren't exclusives so should we be counting them?

Even if so, Soul Calibur 4 wasn't anything special by any means, and Street Fighter 4 is really a game for the most hard core of players. New players just don't have a chance at that game.

Can you honestly say a game made for the most hard core of players is better than a game that anyone, the casual first time player and the hardcore Brawl fan, can pick up and play?

I know people love to call SSBB a mindless button masher, but it is one of the most complete games ever made and no fighter has really come close to it this gen.

Very much so. I've played quite a bit of SC4, and I loved SF2 back in the day. (What's UNS btw?) but they are nothing on Brawl.

UNS is Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm. I figured he'd like because he loves anime and it's the best anime fighter in the past few years.

Gotta love this part:

Platformer: Eh, this isn't the huge genre it once was, but all I've got to say is that right now, it begins and ends with LittleBigPlanet. Not much else to talk about.


And here I was, thinking that one of the best ranked games of all time was Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii... Not much else to talk about indeed.

X360 definitly gets the shooter genre (both TPS/FPS)
Platforming for Wii (LBP isn't very amazing as pure platformer)
PS3 has action/adventure
sRPG - well this belongs to PS3 already among home consoles
jRPG - game is open but for us in the west X360 wins at the moment but in the end it will lose to PS3
wRPG - X360 has small adventage
racers - X360 but can be changed if GT5 is good
fighters - PS3 easier to get cheap arcade sticks better pad :D
