KFC should enter the industry. We're short on greasy gaming goodness

apple could.

other than them, blizzard

and if not them . . . . .. . . . .. . .. . . . midway to make some home pinball thing

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

EA - They would have a near monopoly on sports games, and plus having them be first party they would be forced to put more effort into them. They also have big games like Need For Speed, Medal of Honor and Mass Effect.

Activision - They are also massive and have series like Call of Duty and Guitar Hero which would become exclusive to their console. And having them be first party they would be forced to make them good, maybe Infinity Ward does Call of Duty and not Treyarch?

Apple - For obvious reasons. They already have iPhones which have some good games and they have laptops/computers. Why not make a gaming console and use their strong brand name to sell consoles.

My idea would have been EA. I don't really play EA games but I see how people fiend over their sports titles, needing a new edition every year, and I always though if they pulled away and created their own system they could make a killing.

(AND they could release a new one every year with very little change over the previous).

I'm pretty sure that EA is contractually obligated to release Madden on every platform.  If their other sport contracts are similar, there would be no point for EA to make their own console.

For some reason, I just can't see any of these companies (other than maybe Apple) making a home console. But I guess that's what people said about Sony and Microsoft, too.

I would love to see a joint Samsung/Sega effort, and EA would be the most realistic choice IMO.

Anything that will save us from Petz is a goodthing.

Apple is the most likely out of the the bunch. Plus, the Iphone/Touch isn't too bad for games.
