Forums - Sony - Who here thinks ps3 is Sonys' last videogame console?

I couldn't find a link to when they stopped production, but I remember them not making anymore xboxs after holiday 2004, and even if they did stop making them in 2005 it was the no later than march 2005 because they were preparing to have enough 360s at launch, either way that is still 3 and 4 months on the market tops which is still around 8 million per year when you average it out.

Microsoft sure as hell made Xboxes after the 2004 holiday season. To suggest even for a second that they didn't make any consoles for an entire year is absolutely ludicrous.

The 2004 holiday season was the three-year mark for the Xbox. There were around 17 million Xboxes sold when Halo 2 launched in November of 2004, so that's a little less than 6 million per year.

The information is right here for you to see for yourself.

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=XB&reg1=All&cons2=PS3&reg2=All&cons3=X360&reg3=All&weeks=160

The above chart is 150 weeks from launch or a bit more than 3 years. As you can clearly see, there were around 17 million Xboxes sold which again is slightly under 6 million/year.

Then there's this chart.

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=XB&reg1=All&cons2=PS3&reg2=All&cons3=X360&reg3=All&weeks=210

That chart goes for 210 week from launch, which is slightly more than four years, or again, around 6 million/year.

People have no idea what a bad time for a console is. People look at sales this gen and if something is behind, apparently it's either losing money or there "won't" be another console next gen by them. By that idea, nintendo should of left after 64, microsoft at xbox, etc etc etc.

People fail to realize, PS3 sold as many units as xbox did, and almost as many as GC did, in 1/3rd the time. Without their major price drop yet. You know the power of a brand like that? People want the PS3, PS2 owners want it, they want to adopt, but won't due to price.

People (sony fanboys) fail to realize the PS3 HAS NEVER MADE A PROFIT & HAS COST SONY MORE THAN 3.3 BILLION DOLLARS & WASTED ALL THE PS2 PROFITS.....similar to xbox.

no it ISN't, though playstation brand still in profits, 2 billion to be exact, and the xbox ATE 6 billion and the 360 over 1 billion in profits.

ALSO, PS3 had the largest price drop in the history of consoles going from $599 to $399 in LESS THAN A YEAR!!!

they were 600-700$ consoles before, you know there is a thign called mass market price point 600-500$ ITS not a mass market price cut , those price cuts are almost negible since really either way most people can't afford it. ps2 made it biggest sell at 199$ price point.

read the bold.

even so the 360 its having hard time outselling the ps3, half the price they made actually lost this week.

If Sony sees another decline in the Playstation brand next generation like the one they experienced this time I'd expect them to start seriously considering pulling out of the video game hardware business. Of course Nintendo was pushed into second and then third place with the Nintendo 64 and then Gamecube so who knows.

true but Nintendo always made money.

You wanna have your opinion, then you have to respect different opinions as well.

Sony won't have the money to make a PS4 so yes, this will be their last console, woohoo!

To ignore three pages of argument,

No.

Sony are no tiny company. Don't compare them to Sega, a relatively small company who got destroyed by Nintendo generation after generation, with two consoles that sold around 10 million units, to a multimedia and electronics giant who have won two generations, sold nearly 3 million consoles, and whose worst selling console is at 22 million after two and a half years.

i don't get it... some people want to trash Sony like that or even MS

w/o Sony there will be no competition between Sony and MS

and no competition means no improvement...

Sony CAN make another console considering the CELL technology that they have...

if they use same technology, PS4 will be cheaper in launch compare to PS3 at launch...

I like 360, but w/o PS the video game industry is not the same...

if PS4 became the PS3 next gen(money burner for the company)
I think they will consider it...

but Sony will not play the same strategy next gen...

come on Sony,Nintendo and Microsoft, bring me your consoles next gen....hehehehe...

And of course, without a PS4, Microsoft will be happy to keep prices competitive and continue to make quality, even though it will gain nothing because if people want the "hardcore gaming experience", they'll have to buy the next Xbox.

i agree... since Xbox will become the monopoly of HD gaming(considering Nintendo will not pay attention at HD)

Heck MS might give the next gen Xbox a high price tag~!

With out reading all the coment it is just possible that sony may not make another console. Simply put it is a fact that to some extent it has to be justifiable to their share holders now I understand that the software makes up for hardware losses to some extent. So I want to point out that sony first party dev's can still make games and much more profit will be made if the company isn't lossing money on hardware. That does not mean that they won't make more console's just that they will be under more pressure to do so.

Why put up a chart when I never discounted the sales, all I said was that I thought the xbox stop making consoles a holiday 2004, and even if you are right it is still not 5 years like that other person said, also none of what you said discounts the possibility that given one more year xbox could have sold 9 million.
