The game is not that hard. Really. New game plus is a different story, but you're already experienced by then.

I played a Royal my first time through it. Reached Soul Level 100. Wiki was VERY helpful.

My Royal was heavily focused towards Magic, with spells like Firestorm, Soul Light, Death Cloud, Acid Cloud and Poison Cloud. I also got Thirst from Yuria to help me with the Soul farming.

At level 100 my Royal is Vit 24, Str 22, End 30, Mag 30, Will 30 ...those are my major stats, the others were very neglected.

Armor: Old King Doran's set, Talisman of Beasts, and (as of now) wielding Soul Brand for 500 damage (still haven't reached the part in new game + when I can forge North Regalia)

Shield: Dark Silver Shield +1

On my first playthrough I didn't get any Pure White World, but got two Pure Black ones, killed Satsuki Phantom, and Killed Scirvir. I also got Pure Black Character tendency (hence my 500 dmg from Soulbrand) and did the Mephistopheles quests that were available.

I also started playing a Knight, heavily focused on melee combat.

As of Level 77 he is:

Vit 27
Will 15
End 33
Str 30
Dex 17
Mag 10
Faith 16
Luck 9

Turned all worlds to Pure White except 5 which I still haven't beat. Beat Miralda in Pure White, and Satsuki, got Makoto, got Rydell's and Scirvir's presents.

Able to cast soul arrow, total protection (twice), Anti-magic field, and other resourceful miracles like Cure and Evacuation.

Weapon : Meat Cleaver dealing around 370 dmg right now.

Also got Keel Smasher, but I don't like it....and too heavy for me right now. I'm looking into leveling up Makoto with Colorless Souls.

Armor: Yurt's armor set. And I replace the legs and the torso parts with leather/black leather armor if I need agility. For the most part this character plays most the time over medium equip weight.

Shield: Dark Heater Shield +3/ sometimes Purple Flame Shield.

This game is at 25 hours of gameplay right now (my 100 level royal took me 58hrs. first time through).

QUESTION:

1-What is the best piece of equipment to upgrade with colorless demon's souls?

2- Is the insane catalyst all that better than the other catalyst/talisman of beast?

Thanks. I'm open to any questions, I love this game, we should hype it a lot more, just like people did with VC around here!

I can import it for about the same money it would've cost to buy it day one here in europe. It says its Eng/Chi, will the US release be any different? I mean, it says its english!?

US gamers will play it on the different server for online co-op/invasion.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

^If you get the US version, then US servers for you.

I have an important question to ask. I will probably make my purchase decision based upon the answer.
Is it possible to customize your character's armor/clothes as you play the game?
If yes then do the changes reflect in the look of your character in game?

For example if I acquire a bad-ass helmet or a robe or say leather armor and wear it, does that show on my in-game character?

Yes, but no upgrade option for the armor/clothes.  In this game, you can only upgrade weapons.

Yes, it even reflect in the cut scene.

For colorless demon's souls, it'll depend how you play the game. If you use a shield, then Dark Silver Shield is a priority. For weapons, I don't find the upgrades worth it over the unique non-upgradeables, example, best bow is viscous compound longbow+5, best sword would be North Regalia/Meat Cleaver, spears is Moon Winged Spear +5. So personally, I find the shields to be a better upgrade. Large Brushwood shield +5 is an upgrade over the purple flame shield if you don't mind the added weight and adjucator's shield +5 will basically nullify the poison effect in world 5. The only weapons worth upgrading imo is the phosphorescent staff for the mp regen and kris knife if you're a heavy magic user (although I prefer to use Morion Blade with less than 30% hp instead).

Insane catalyst will be better only if you have really high magic stat and very low faith stats. 99 magic and 1 faith using insanity catalyst is less effective than 50 magic 50 faith using talisman of the beast. Personally, I use tally of the beast with 70 magic and 60 faith and it does around 1.5X more dmg than insanity catalyst.

You change armor for the head, arms, torso and legs. You may even find some armor in game which is for females only, so that also brings more diversity to the game. Armor not only reflects on your appearance, it also affects your movement depending on how much weight you have EQUIPPED on you, but there's also a stat which you can only notice when you try different types of armor: Starmina Regeneration Impact. You have a Stamina bar which refills automatically when you are not melee-attacking/running/rolling (it refills while blocking, but slowly), and the time your stamina takes to refill depends on your armor.

There are different categories of armor and each one has different stamina regeneration penalties which aren't necessarily related to their weight. For example, the Old Raggedy Gloves weigh 3.5 pounds and their stamina regeneration penalty is the same (very low) as the Plate Gauntlet. Later on the game you can get a Ring of Strength which boosts your Equipped weight capacity, and greatly helps you to stay unemcumbered and agile even while wearing some very heavy armor/weapons.

However, your stamina regeneration is still a complete different element you have to keep an eye on, regardless of your equipped load, and you have to take that into consideration depending on the type of character you want to play, your fighting style, and everything . Are you going for the big swing with a heavy stamina-consuming big sword/axe? and rely on your physical defense/shield block, or will you prefer having a quick stamina regen so you can tumble around as much as you like and still be able to "stick and move", sneak attack, keep your distance and blast with magic, or maybe a balance between agility and melee power? It's all up to you!
