Megaman.2. posts his thoughts on the remaining 7 months of the year with April all but coming to an end so what is in store for us gamers? Megaman.2. investigates..

My thoughts on the Japan (Ps3 vs. Wii)

As this week has shown us that Japan is still up for grabs, according to media create and dengeki the Ps3 has already outsold the Wii in Japan for 2009. I think it will be a close on with the Nintendo Wii releasing Wii resort, Punch out etc. all will add fuel to the Wii tank but it will be enough? Only time will tell. However with Tekken 6 and possibly either Gran turismo 5 or FF13 releasing for the fall in Japan, I would have to go with the ps3.

If a demo can have such an impact what will do the full game do? I think my good friend Carl2291 sums it up.

"And you don’t think PS3 is going anywhere? It just sold 4x more than the Wii, with a Demo... a fucking DEMO!!!"

My thoughts on the console war (360 vs. ps3)

The Xbox 360 for 2009 has outsold the ps3 on a weekly basis, however the xbox 360 seems to be slowing down. As these results from the 28th of March until the 18th show:

http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=®1=------&cons2=®2=All&cons3=®3=All&start=39901&end=39922

as the graph shows the X360 seems to be losing momentum and sales have been declining whereas the ps3 sales have been moderate and steady. When incorporating the remaining 8 months of the year. There are many factors to be considered.

  • I have to factor in e3 depending on what Sony/Microsoft announce at e3 it will have an significant impact and will provide a resurgence in sales and momentum
  • Will Sony cut price and will Microsoft follow suit
  • What unannounced games may make in time for 2009 e.g. Gow3. Splinter cell conviction

My honest opinion is that E3 will be Sony’s this year, reason being they seem to very confident in what they will show for E3. Many are speculating Sony to reveal something huge on E3, Games like Gow3 or Gt5 possibly being announced for 2009 or maybe a new IP. With team Ico showing of their new game. This Years e3 will be excellent

But im not forgetting about Nintendo nor Microsoft, Nintendo has a lot to prove this E3 many were disappointed with the last year’s e3 so Nintendo will have to pull out all the stops for this year’s e3. Microsoft is playing it safe, im expecting a lot from them indeed. Many games need to be announced for e3 including release dates for forza3, Mass effect 2 and splinter cell conviction. Like last year Microsoft will be doing everything to steal the show.

Notable pending software releases for 2009 (A summary) are:

  • Halo 3 expansion pack
  • Modern Warfare 2
  • Uncharted 2
  • Infamous
  • Splinter cell conviction
  • Assassins creed
  • Final Fantasy XIII
  • Monster hunter 3
  • Wii resort
  • Tekken 6
  • Tales of graces

There are of course more games to come for 2009, but this just a flavour.

Im hoping that a price cut may be announced by Sony for e3 but im not too optimistic about it, Nintendo may announce new Zelda and Mario games at  E3 of that im very confident. With Microsoft possibly showing footage for Forza 3.

Closing Comment

The last remaining 7 months will be a heated battle, many fanboys will lose their lives, and many trolls will be banned. We will be blessed with some outstanding games over the next 7 months sure to empty our wallets. With E3 looming over us, with huge announcements expected. It’s not good to be a gamer, it fucking great to be a gamer.

Megman.2. theory

I expect Japan to be the first battleground to fall for Sony's ps3 with Europe closely followed in spring 2010. With much fight The fall of 2010 will see America fall victim to the resurgence in the playstation Brand

Megaman.2. out.

I've found that surprises, megatons, huge revelations, are what win E3. If Sony just drops God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5, yeah, they're great games, yeah, they'll generate hype, but we all knew about these games already, and people will be bored (the game journalists in general will be bored, thus generating ho-hum attitudes. Not saying its right for them to do that, but that's what they'll do)

This is why i say that Nintendo and Microsoft are better poised, since they've been strangely quiet about their 2nd-half release schedules, and thus have more surprises to unveil at E3.

As for Japan, Wii Sports Resort and Monster Hunter 3 will probably drop in the same month, and Wii will explode through the summer. I do agree that Fall could be rather close, between the possibility of Final Fantasy XIII and the possibility of Gran Turismo 5, set against whatever Nintendo has in stock, and alongside what 3rd parties are cooking up for Wii in Japan, but Monster Hunter 3 and Wii Sports Resort are going to put Wii back in the driver's seat all summer long

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

@megaman

Im either getting rid of my PS3 or 360 after E3(the sheep stays or goes ) . I honestly dont need both

NEVER did I expect that when I opened this thread. wow.

I think PS3 will finish third this year... based on what you may ask?

Based on that is where it is tracking for the first 5 months.... simple really.

Why? There's good games out for both of them already, and only more will come...

Gran Turismo 5 alone would put PS3 ahead of Wii in Japan. The Japanese fucking love Gran Turismo, and so do I.

Ahhh my comment again

Anyway, this year i expect PS3 to just pip Wii to the post in Japan.
E3 should get quite a few popular JRPGs going PS3s way (the ones what failed on 360)
FF13 is a given, should move about 200k consoles.
If GT5 comes out around december then thats a guarenteed 150k consoles sold in Japan imo.

Others the PS3 will beat 360 next year, but will still lose to Wii.
America, i dont think PS3 will ever win a year.

All the Big N has to do is drop Kid Icarus or a New Zelda to steal the show @ E3, plain and simple.
