No, because Nintendo expanded the market to casual, there are more of them then traditional gamers.

Without taking the Americas market into consideration, this past week, the 360 and PS3 combined have already sold a combined 65,022 more units than the Wii.

This is so stupid, your assuming those that baught a PS3 would switch to xbox if all that shit above was true. I for one would never, as 360 hardware has been a piece of crap from day one. Sure they have fixed most the issues, but how many games have I missed out on because of this long wait?
Then you have fanboys who will never go multiplatform and die with the one brand they always baught.
Then you also have people who hate Microsoft.
Some of those PS3 would have been baught as Blu-Ray players, do to shops pushing them as a multimedia device for homes rather then gaming consoles.
So many factors to consider before you can make a call like that.

I'm assuming that if there wasn't a Playstation console as any kind of a major player in Western videogames and that if Nintendo's next gen console is only about as powerful in respect to today's PS3 and 360 as the Wii is to the original xbox while Microsoft's next console is affordable yet the kind of machine that could easily more than run Crysis at its highest settings, then the kinds of third parties and third party games we haven't seen on the Wii this gen would still be being made in large numbers on Mivrosoft's next console while they probably wouldn't be on Nintndo's next console.

If there wasn't a playsation then Nintendo and SEGA would still be fighting it out lol.
but lets play your game. If Sony didn't exist,
Nintendo wouldnt of got killed some much on the gamecube, they probably would of gotten most the support then and won actually, because all the japanese games went to ps2 instead of gamecube.
Nintendo would have one competitor this gen.
Nintendo would play it safe and release a HD console without motion controls and get all the exclusives and Win again, because japanese would still buy Nintendo other xbox, so all Japanese games would be on Nintendo first. ie FFXIV, MGS5 DQIX etc.., which alot of people play in the west anyway. Then you have Nintendo game line up which people would buy.
So suddenly your exclusives list as good as it is starts getting overshadowed by Nintendos games + 3rd party Japenese game. But if the HD Wii was killing the 360 then those exlucises too would go multiplatform or move to Nintendo. So all you would really have left is Halo 4.
This is my version of hwo things would have folded out, but we will never know as assumptions are not reality.

Actually, if it wasn't for Playstation, then Nintendo and Sega would still be duking out, and gaming never really would have reached the worldwide highs that it did under Sony's consoles. Also, if it wasn't for Sony, Microsoft never would have felt a need to become a competitor in home console gaming. They would have felt more than content to release the games that they did soley on PCs that ran Windows operating systems.
There you see the dichotomy that exists between western pc games and Japanese console games that existed in the 16 and 32 bit eras and would have remained the status quo for this industry if Sony's Playstation brand hadn't entered the console market and become so popular that it prompted Microsoft to have a go at it too. Western PC game developers saw the xbox as the first viable home console to be made in the USA / West since the Atari 2600 and more and more Western PC developers wanted to work on xbox consoles when they saw how successful Halo was for Bungie and then the success of Knights of the Old Republic for Bioware, and Epic Games' Gears of War series on the 360.
Now because of Sony's success the last two generations, it is still hanging around in the West and it does enjoy much more popularity with Japanese gamers for whatever reason than does the 360. However, if Sony decides to run another super system like the PS3 again next gen there's every reason to suspect that it would fare much worse than the PS3 has in either the Americas or Europe as Microsoft uses success, lack of Sony success, and a little currency to sway more and more Western developers to develop xbox exclusives.
Really, the only way Nintendo could hope to compete with Microsoft's next console and the massive armada of Western game developers that will be making games for it is to try to develop their own super system next time out because if they try to go the Wii route again most of the key Wesern third parties that have ignored Wii this gen would ignore Wii 2 again next gen and the next xbox would be benefitting from the lack of a PS super system in the games market.
The strategy of most Japanese developers and gamers to support the PS3 can only lead to Japanese gaming become more insular and less of a player in future gaming gens. However, both Square and Capcom to an extent are seeing that to continue to be major players in gaming in years to come they need to establish secure ties with the Western game console. This is very similar to Hollywood's rise in film prominence in the 1930's.
