Forums - Gaming - Does It Make Sense To Tout a Console's Sales?

Let me throw out a sport reference to support why fans should tout. Think of it as a team thing, there are 3 main teams in this console league and I want one to do better than all of them. The only way to really know is by sales because game quality is a matter of opinion, which raises debates hence most of the posts on here. But sales are facts, just like wins-loss records are facts doesn't matter if it was 1 point difference or the other team shot better FG% or whatever.

In a business market sense, obviously it does matter, that install base you speak of proves it, sales matter and achieving a good size install base matters. Sales = money, money matters.

Why do PS3 fanboys always depict the Xbox 360 as some family car whilst depicting the PS3 as some sports car? Its like they are compensating for something.

In any case the closest analogy is the WRX + STI vs Evo

It is what it is. Your analogy is pretty far off center.  The research proves you wrong in your analogy.  You just ignore that, though.

It makes BUSINESS SENSE, but it doesn't effect consumers, this far into the process.  That's the main point right there.  Being technically better is a fact (something that can be proven), too.  Of course, that doesn't stop people from trying to dismiss it.

So... wait a sec... this Corvette has a speed reducer installed so it goes the same speed as the Camry?? But it does have a nicer sound system in it? And the Wii is a volkwagen beetle? Everybody loves that little car?

Yep!  It's called the driver.

The Vette is a head turner!..grade A car, especially yellow ones.

If the basic argument is sales are not indicative of quality, then I agree.
If it is drawing some conclusion about each console specifically, then I probably disagree.

Ok then, the Corvette (PS3) in your analogy is a 1984 L83 V8 with 350 cubes producing a pittiful 205 hp surviving pathetically on a glorius legacy of past success which it is busy squandering whilst the Camry (Xbox 360) Is a 2007 Gen 7 with an efficient 3.5L 2GF-FE V6 producing an impressive 268 hp with all the mod cons.

Even people who love corvettes would prefer a different model, tis a shame really. The PS3 could have had a fine car analogy.

Tease.

I can't say I think the car comparison is very valid, for a multitude of reasons.
