Do you think Gran Turismo 5 will out sell Halo 3???

GT has historically sold better than Halo. But the thing that makes it unpredictable this time around, is that the user base for PlayStation is smaller than it was on the Ps2 and Ps1. Though to be honest, I'm not sure what the user base was when GT3 A-spec came out. Couldve been similar to what the Ps3 user base is right now...im not sure.

The first GT for the Ps1 sold 10.8million, while the first GT for Ps2 sold 14.8million....how will the first real GT entry on the Ps3 sell? Will it out sell Halo 3?

It could probably give Halo 3 a run for its money, but the obvious answer is that the PS3's lower install base might hinder it.

 

GT5's sales will show whether it was selling because it was "that racing game on playstation," or because it was "the racing game on playstation" if you catch my meaning.

I'd say it doesn't have a chance in hell to beat halo 3's opening week, neither will it beat Halo 3 ltd...

Halo 3 will soon be bundled with the Elite which should easily push it to 11 million over the next year or so.  If they decide to bundle it with the Pro or Arcade that number could eventually approach 18-20 million.

and what are you basing this prediction on? Because Halo's biggest seller sold less than 2 of the GT games? Because Halos biggest seller barely sold more than GT's 3rd highest?

GT5 will outsell Halo 3 . Halo 3 is almost 10 milion and it can reach 11 million lifetime, but GT5 will sell 12-15 million.
It doesn´t matter the less ps3 user base, GT5 is always a 9,5/10 game and has millions of fans.
GT5 is one of few games that sell very very high everywhere ( japan, us, others); Halo will never be in japonese people hearts.

Though it will move more units with the bundle... I think anyone who wanted Halo3, already has it.
