Forums - Nintendo - Madden NFL 10 on Wii will bring 'super deformed characters' - first video

looks sort of bad. Don't know why its like that

Around the Network

Developers are in a "damned if you do and damned if you don't" situation here.

If they try to make the game photo realistic on the Wii, it will be bashed as being not as good as the PS3 or Xbox 360 -- which it cannot be.

If they try something different, it will be bashed because it is not photo realistic.

The style reminds me of super hero comics/cartoons. Slightly out-of-proportion bodies closer to an "ideal state" than is humanly possible.

It will come down to how it controls. I found Madden 09 to actually work while 08 was too sensitive. It also came on the heels of the poorly-reviewed Wii version of NCAA. So it had two strikes against it (three if you include the goofy cover).

But look at the Conduit. All Wii games are supposed to look like that, even though a football game does not use the system resources the same way as a linear FPS.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Eh. I'd perfer more realistic but lets be honest.

MLB Power Pros is the best baseball game released and it doesn't have realistic looking guys so screw it.

Really though.  I'd prolly get the 360 version anyway.  Due to wii versions usually lacking modes in sports games.

its not real football any way

Well what is this style trying to attract Children, teens, or Adults(causal or hardcore)?
Because teens and adults like players in Madden that looks like their counterparts much as possible. I never heard a Madden fan or a football fan say I wish Madden was cartoon like. The ones that like this style are the ones that doesn't even buy football games or going to buy Madden for the PS3/360.

And if you listen to the PS3 and Xbox 360 "fanboys" -- all they say is how generic and meh Conduit looks.  I disagree. But there is no pleasing some people.

Personally, both Madden 10 and Conduit will be in my collection.

you guys argued for hundreds of posts, but the L icon guy (death note?) is right

madden on wii looks like crap, prolly plays like it, and NO ONE will buy the wii version if they can get an HD one

end of story, i'll bet my signature on the sales of it bein garbage

not every game works for wii

Define sales of it bein garbage. Million?

I'll take the bet that Madden 10 will pass one million.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Two things, there are tens of millions of households who watch football regularly and play videogames regularly but don't play Madden, and even in households who regularly buy Madden there are people who watch football and play videogames who don't play Madden. Targeting current Madden fans who are already pretty happy with the HD version of the game doesn't help EA grow Madden's userbase, so it is highly likely that the Wii version is heavily targeting football fans who are gamers who do not play Madden games ...

Now, I could be wrong but I suspect the Wii version of Madden will end up moving towards the market placement (for football games) that SSX holds for Snowboarding games ... While I'm certain that it won't have any impact on whether or not HD madden fans buy the HD version of future Madden games, I suspect that over several versions of the Wii-Styled Madden (if well marketed) they could grow the franchise to a level where the non-photorealistic Madden sold multiple millions of copies.
