Sony tried to use the popularity of the Playstation brand to push along a new format. Thus, if they would have been successful, they would be dominating at to markets: movies and games. I can see why they were so inclined to lose money like they did. But, things didn't go the way they wanted and now, they are paying for it. I'm sure Sony will not repeat the same mistake next gen.
PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E
Guidelines to understanding my train of thought:
Of course SONY want to exceed.
They just thought that PS3 would be the market leader by now.
They over estimated themselves.
They underestimated the Wii.
They didnt expect to be selling a hevily priced console in a recession.
Anyway, with the new chip whats going in the PS3, production prices will drop... and eventually so will prices.

Isn't it pretty much the same thing? Sony believed that there literally was no competiion because they literally thought that everyone would automaticly buy the PS3 first, no matter what the competion offered, dueto the strength and loyalty in their brand?

when i can download movies in hd why do i need a blu ray player again?
blu ray = laserdisc
cool but not necessary

Cause the average person doesnt know how to download HD movies, or any movie for that matter. Or they dont care to. By your logic a lot of things arent necessary. Shoot, video games arent really necessary but we all buy them.

I am a gamer. Not a fanboy, not a troll, a gamer. So when you dont like what I have to say, remember this fact.

That means that if the Yen was at its expeced rate to the dollar and other currencies, the PS3 would cost under $340 to produce right now instead of $440 or whatever it is. Anyway, it's not helping. |
That also means that Sony makes Y33 less for every dollar on a PS3 sold in the U.S.... 20% less

The people who don't know how to download movies are the same people who could care less about Blu Ray's....
