Forums - Microsoft - Would you prefer your Xbox360 to have Blu-ray?

It would be a big thing for the 360 to have built in blu-ray.

Sure.  Built-in GPS would be big too.  But I would still not be interested in paying the extra money for something in my console that I have no need for.

No, because then there would have been no reason for me to buy a PS3, and I would have to continue replacing my PS2 every couple of years to play those games anymore.

The OP's question has a flaw in it. How could anyone have wanted Blu-Ray from the beginning when no one actually knew if HD DVD was going to defeat it? The choice to make the HD DVD drive as an add-on for the 360 pretty much pushes the idea that most people in this thread have been talking about: Keeping the system at a low cost.

I personally have a PS3 as well as a 360, so it would have been beyond pointless to spend my money on both consoles were they both expensive due tto having the format built in. So, in this way, you can see that my choice to get a 360 was actually positively effected by its lack of Blu Ray. At the same time, I think that a Blu Ray add-on would be of great value to the 360 because it would give those who only have the 360 the option of choosing to use it.

Microsoft discontinued the HD-DVD add-ons were discontinued. Extra crap like that isn't needed. It's just Sony forcing products into the market that consumers don't actually need because of shareholders.

meh. I don't watch movies so I wouldn't need/want a blu ray player. If the ps3 and 360 went and made some babies without a price hike, sure, i'd take it.

If they could have done it without increasing the cost and downgrading multiplatform games to PS3 level, sure why not?

How do you think us PS3 owners feel that we have to get half assed games because of the size limitations of the DVD9 in the 360.   It sucks playing a game like GTA4 with only 30 hours of stuff in it knowing that it could have been 3 times longer if they would have made it PS3 only

If they'd had to make it 3 times longer chances are it wouldn't have even been completed because the developer would have gone bankrupt first.  Really, you should be thanking the "limitations" of the 360 that you can even play GTA4 at all.  I am only being partially sarcastic.

@OP It would have been nice, but not having it was not a deal breaker.  There are plenty of amazing games this gen that fit on DVD9's.

Most are missing the point, some people actually watched movies on their ps2 or xbox last gen. I watch blu-rays on my second ps3, some people picked up the HD-DVD add on. So obviously there would be a market on it on the 360, so I believe that people "would" buy the blu-ray "add on" if available.

Nobody is missing the point.

If 360 owners didn't support HD-DVD (which was in higher demand than Blu Ray before the PS3) add-on, then you are horribly wrong about 360 owners accepting Blu Ray. It's a waste of space and a waste of time.

Isn't the whole topic kind of pointless considering BR was basically just a spec when the 360 was launched?

Yes but not in a biased Sony Fanboy mind...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.
