Well last $100 price drop caused PS3 to go from 160K worldwide to 230K worldwide. Use that as your guide and likely PS3 sales after $100 price drop will be sub 250K. That last drop was November 2007.

That really isn't a guide though. As the price gets lower, the PS3 gets more potential sales. For example. People may be waiting for a 250$ PS3. Some people may be willing to pay 299$. Not the 250$ Target audience though. But when PS3 gets to 250$ , both the 250$ and 299$ Target audience will pick a PS3 up.

Yes and people were waiting for a $399 PS3 when Sony dropped it $100 before.  Last week the PS3 sold 130K.  Show many any time that a consoles sales tripled because of a $100 price drop.  Even when the PS2 dropped from $300 to $200 the sales jumped from 175K to 320K. It was at 240K a couple weeks before the price drop so looks like rumours of price drop caused sales to slow until the price drop happened.  Maybe that is how Sony can get a triple boost. They can announce a November price drop in September to get a huge boost in November.

You get what im saying though. The Target audience will be bigger at 299$ than at 399$

A good boost and obviously with average sales once the boost is over higher than the previous cut, but the initial boost needs that Sony doesn't screw up timing and marketing to be the highest possible. I can't predict a figure, there is a good expectance for this cut, but there is also the crisis.

@blazinhead,

But that doesnt mean everyone that will pickup a PS3 at $300 will do it immediatly.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

I reject the assumptions of this thread and thus am unable to answer.

The PS3 will not have a $100 price cut this year, I HAVE PREDICTED!!

At what point did he say that the $100 cut would be this year? It could easily be in September 2010, though if they go that long without any kind of price reduction, Sony can kiss second place goodbye.

Please answer the question with your sales estimates for first week of PS3 console sales only.  OK

I believe PS3 could notch 400 000+ in first full week of PS3 price cut. ME TOO

Please answer the thread question with your sales estimates for first week of PS3 console sales only. OK

Let's see how close you get to the total when it does happen later on this year. OK

the promblem is its starting to look alot like it will only get a 50$ price cut i really hope this is not the case but if the price cut happens during the holidays PS3 sales will EXPLODE

IF its a 100$ price cut i think it will be GAME OVER for the 360

Anyway, I would like to go on record saying the following

If there is a price cut in 2009, it will be by less than $100

The PS3 price cut will probably not happen at the same time worldwide, so the question is unanswerable

Hmm, they will have to 1) produce enough units to provide retailers with 2) produce them after the costs have been cut and without it leaking too fast...

I suspect sales will head towards 400.000 (tad less) and basically really explode around the holiday season (although I fear they won't be able to supply enough).

im waiting for more than 100 dollar cut

im waiting till i can grab one used for 150-200 bucks, then im down

3 bils is still too much for something that has maybe 3 games i cant get on 360 that i want

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

People are waiting long for a price drop, so a 3x increase wouldn't surprise me. Especially if done during holidays.
