Forums - Microsoft - Why the PS3 will ultimately succumb to the 360...

@FinalEvangelion

Some of the games you menion for PS3 likely won't be out until 2009 (or beyond). By that time there will be some pretty huge 360 games out... Stuff like Marvel Universe Online, Microsoft licensed every Marvel comic property from 1940 onwards, over 5,000 heroes, villains, and civilians.. Also Banjo Kazooie 3 will likely be huge and seeing as you are interested in R&C it seems like it would appeal to you. Fable 2 also seems like it would be interesting for someone that likes RPGS. And Too Human could surprise everyone and come together extremely well.

The 360 will wipe the floor with the ps3, xbox is just more popular.

Versus the PS3, the Xbox 360 is:

a) Cheaper
b) Has more games that appeal to the general market

You don't need 5000 pages of explanation to tell us that.

On the same score, versus the Xbox 360, Wii is:

a) Cheaper
b) Has more games that appeal to the general market

Ubuntu. Linux for human beings.

I agree with Crazyman, this handful of new Hardcore games is going to murder the 360 and Wii. Sony has finally learned that having a console that showcases every genre of gaming is a waste and doomed to failure like the PS1 and PS2 were. Instead now they focus on only a handful of five or so genres entirely.

They also know the power of focusing on a more limited demographic, essentially condensing the selling power of their games, you'll sell more games if you focus your game library on only 15-25 year olds instead of 5-85 year olds, that's common sense.

They've also learned the waste of wreckless innovation which has doomed the Wii, why needlessly reinvent gaming, create new games or putting a new spin on old genres when you can show everyone why that genre is great just like it has been for the past ten years. FPS' are a fantastic example of this, I mean we have Resistance, Killzone2, HAZE and much more to come, I honestly wonder if the gaming market even needs a genre outside of the FPS. But for all you whiners who want more than FPSs, well Sony is thinking about you too. We have Heavenly Sword, which is God of War with pantie shots so you know you're getting a sure fire product; while Nintendo is taking all these risky steps with their franchises, Sony knows how to keep to the core.

For third party support, there is plenty. Like for old school RPG fans, Star Ocean 4 and FFXIII is your answer, The Final Fantasy franchise has only been getting better and better with each game becomming more and more refined so you know this new one is going to blow all the others away and at the very least double the number of PS3's out there in Japan, Square-Enix knows where the real action is at. Konami is another powerhouse ready to dominate with the PS3, just look at MGS4, the sneaking genre, who doesn't love this genre, you're taking the same formula that made every other MGS game a ten million plus seller and putting it on HD graphics, I don't know how this can't be the best game comming out this generation. And Silent Hill, we can all agree Silent Hill 3 and 4 were the best of the series and there's no way 5 isn't going to follow suit.

And for those who want new genres, well The PS3 has basically reinvented the flight simulator with Warhawk and Lair, so there you go. The PS3 really does give you more for less. Heck Lair I hear is even a casual game now so the casual audience has its own title too and I'm sure more to come.

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

There was a 21% sales increase when the price went from 600-500 USD on the 60 Gigabyte model... with the upcoming 400 USD bundle with SpiderMan3 Blu-Ray.. DURING the holiday seasons and after, with the flow of games hitting hard after the end of 07'... I don't see why its not hard for the PS3 to pass the 360? Opinions are opinions but honestly, Halo 3 will hit hard but pretty much everyone who wanted Halo3 already has a 360...( Besides me, I'm planning on buying a 360 when theres a deal for it ).. I'm surprised the PS3 is selling as decent as it is with the high price.. and with the way prices are being cut I'm expecting a 200%-220% increase in sales ( This is very possible seeing as sales aren't that high to begin with ) monthly. In the end though, its the games that decides the winner..

1. PS3
2. Wii
3. 360

Fanboyism? Hardly... the Wii is branching out in to a new market, bringing in new customers.. but what happens once that new market begins to lose is value? Not 100 percent sure about this statement but someone with more knowledge of the market and business could help me out here... The PS3 is staying in the same market, with a potential of 100 Million userbase once the price drops.. ( PS2 to PS3 gamers )...

Not sure if everyone can agree with this statement but didn't the Xbox flop? Is it possible the only reason why Microsoft has such a larger install base is because of the one-year advantage? Anyways I'll wait for someone to reply to go on...

Exactly, Sony knows that the FPS and God of War clones are the only genres that matter this generation. The Wii is a fad because I don't own one and that tells you something. Sony has all the third party support too like Square-Enix, Konami... and a bunch of others but I can't think of them right now. The PS3 is going to win this.

If ps3 were to do that you could expect to have xbox drop its price and bundle something as well

In terms of games, you can count wii winner, if its quanity over quality ( n64 and ps one anyone?)

You cannot say sony will take top because most of the ps2 owners will want a ps 3, its what happened with nintendo, they lost more and more each year of fans, till now nintendo is back on top.

No they do not have such a huge advantage because of 1 year, ps3 is selling at the same rate as 360, if not slower, so you cannot say that year gave them that lead, because its not the only thing that is allowing them to win

It's selling at the same rate as the 360 +/- every few months. As you said it yourself, the Wii has a large number of games but currently few quality games. In terms of games selling systems, its quality games that do that job. If those million seller games were mediocre they wouldn't be million sellers in the first place, correct? And no I do not expect Microsoft to drop price because of Sony's rumored price drop this holiday season due to the fact that Microsoft has already bled a lot of money already and they need to find a way to make up for that. That 1 year head-start 360 had it was selling tons more than it is now, that is why the lead is so tremendous. Otherwise it would probably be around 8mil or lower ( They count refurbished units as sold ) if it sold at the rate of the PS3.
