Rentals mean nothing. However, this does fit my theory that a lot of 360 owners find a game fun for a mere fraction of the time other system owners would.

Low Blow Montana. :)

Just because you are barely in the top 100 on the 360 VG league should not colour your judgement. LOL.

Well played (though to be fair, most of the people above me have a bunch more games than I do).

Slowmo: Well then, the people I was talking about were people from my XBL friend's list. So if that were true, my friends would all have to be a bunch of dirty pirates.

I and most of my friends rent most of our 360 games. If you don't pay for live what is the point of buying the game.

Considering that's basically an opinioned statement (2nd half of it)  I or anyone else (probably) are not going to try and answer that for you.

It was a rhetorical question anyway, so that works out fine.  :)     (Lack of question mark for emphasis)

Not good for M$

But war... war never changes

Your theory holds no ground

Look at the top 10 list of games played based off Xbox Live.. These games have been out for months and some over a year.

Yet their still played... unless of course your trying to tell us they're not having fun?

Xbox 360 Top Live Titles (based on UU's)

  1. Halo 3
  2. Call of Duty: WaW
  3. Call of Duty 4
  4. Gears of War 2
  5. Resident Evil 5
  6. GTA IV
  7. FIFA 09
  8. Left 4 Dead
  9. Halo Wars
  10. Guitar Hero World Tour

Edit -

I would love to know where this theory came from? Cause from my point of view its busted by just looking at the top 10 games played on Xbox Live

Most of those are online shooters - those games tend to be played for ages.

Hell people on pc are still playing orginal Counter Strike that came shortly after Half Life 1.

Nice for the 360, but isn't that a bit painful for Resident Evil 5? Or are gaming companies getting a slice of the action in Canada for the rentals? Because I can't imagine a majority of these gamers actually buying the title :-/

Wow, the Canadian Rental Market?

You know the PS3 dominates in Russia?

I was wondering how long it would take for PS3 trolls to show up..

Yea...rite.

That was just my initial reaction to news that I deemed totally unimportant.

Why care about the Canadian Rental market?

just wondering why sony fanboy love trolling

Yeah, but your graph is pointless unless you can provide data for the other consoles for comparison. I've tried looking for the top 10 games on PSN (so far, no luck), but this site's data on Wii usage will tell you that Wii gamers are still playing older games plenty. I didn't say that Xbox 360 owners get bored of games quickly, just more quickly than other console owners. It's a part of why I think the attach rate is as high as it is. I see a lot of people on Xbox Live who own tons of games and yet have few achievements in each of them (even ones that are really easy to get). That means that either they're not playing the games, or there's some special way to hide your achievements that I don't know about.

Actually currently the Xbox 360 has a lower % of software market share relative to hardware market share: I.E Software % < Hardware %. So either they pirate, rent or are so immensely satisfied with past games that they don't move onto new ones. I would suspect its a combination of the 3 as Halo 3 for example has an average playtime of over 120 hours over x% of Live connected 360s.

Im not afraid of you anymore.

Tease.

I'm sure the developers/publishers get a cut for each rental. If you look at the money generated for movies on occasion they will also mention rental profits.

Here's a quote from Wikipeda in regards to Spiderman 3.

"In the United States, the film grossed more than $121 million on DVD sales in 18 weeks.[99] It also grossed more than $43.76 million on DVD/Home Video Rentals in 11 weeks.[100] However, the DVD sales results of this film didn't meet industry expectations."

wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! COMPLETE XBOX 360 DOMINATION!!!!!!!!

I never woud have expected it DESTROY the other 2 system so easily.

Playstation brand is dying every day sony goes without a price cut.

Sony as a company survives every day the ps3 goes without a price cut.

Well, video rentals is an entirely different issue since there are specific video rental copies out there which cost a heck of a lot more so that the industry gets its cut as well.

Over here, rentals for video games have been banned because the industry complained that retailers get all the profit from that while technically the distributor only sold 1 copy (which gets used over and over again with rentals). So I actually doubt that the publishers / developers even see a penny from this (aside from the initial sale). Anyone from Canada who can confirm whether rentals go to the developers too?
