Forums - Nintendo - Would you be more HAPPY with your Wii if NINTY had made it like the PS3?!

If that happened they would be getting better 3rd party support and the big multiplats such as Assasian's Creed, Fight Night, Batman, Max Payne 3, etc would all becoming to it.

I enjoyed the Cube alot last gen and if Nintendo went this route, I would have gotten it.

The GC was on par graphically to the PS2 and Xbox last generation but was still left in the cold by 3rd parties.  What makes you think that would have changed this generation?

I think he's under the assumption that if Nintendo released this high specs console that all three would be selling relatively the same. It'll be a three way race with no console pulling far ahead of the pack. It's impossible to know the ramifications of what would have happened, but I could easily see the PS3 dominating Japan, 360 dominating NTSC and the two fighting over Europe, with Nintendo slightly pulling up the rear in all three regions. Depending on how far behind would be the deciding factor on whether they need Nintendo's console to pull in more sales.

Personally, it would have been a terrible idea. While I'm not currently the biggest Wii fan on this planet, I see the same seeds forming that began forming on the DS years back, and I know where this is going.

He said if Sony had made a Wii type of console and the 360 and the Nintendo N5 were the only HD consoles. Since HD games cost more to make I am pretty sure they will not bother porting to the Sony Sii but rather have a joint production of HD games coming to the 360 and N5.

Sony would be busy concentrating on a different market with their first party titles that are pretty much casualized.

Uh, no he didn't.   Read the OP again, please.

He made another thread asking would you like your PS3 if it was more like the Wii. So I assumed he was asking an all round hypothetical question.

But my point still stands.

Rofl at Zelda co-op. That is a horrible idea! What kind of Zelda fan are you?

I like the Wii the way it is more than if it was a PS3 clone. It would be even better to get a mixture of the two, but that will have to wait for the next gen.

There was Zelda: Legend of the Four Swords which allowed up to 4 people.  However, I think they all had to stay on the same screen.  I don't know too much about it since I never played it.  It look interesting at the time though.  I suck a Zelda games though.  I have about 4 and never finished one.  I always get stuck or put it away for another game then forget to go back.  I plan on beating Zelda 2 first then possibly finishing my N64 OoT which I got stuck on the water temple.

No. Then it would have been $700 at launch (due to more expensive controllers) have no casual base and be driving Nintendo out of business. I still wouldn't own one.

Games would cost more and be less innovative because HD graphics make risks too prohibitive.

And even more 3rd parties would be going out of business with no cheap (Carnival) Wii games to balance out the HD game budget/losses.

Besides would HD rreally make much difference to Mario, Kirby, etc.? Not really.

zelda in HD. im not a zelda fan but i would by that first day.

I basically never play my Wii, so I would probably use it more if it WERE more like a PS3, HOWEVER, I think its good for what it is. While it doesn't have a lot of games that appeal to me, they do appeal to a lot of people, and its good for something different.

Why would you use it more if it was more like it huh?

It would probably have more types of games I enjoy.  I play my PS3 and 360 a lot, but hardly ever the Wii.  As I said, though, I'm glad it exists, I'm glad lots of people love it.  Don't take this as a bashing post.  It just hasn't been my cup of tea.

So then it's not about the Wii being like the Ps3 it's just the games.

You mean overly expensive and no games for 2 years?

I think i'm happier with a cheap console with one or 2 good games a year over that.

Ah wow, I don't know how I forgot about that game. With his OP I was thinking of a big HD Zelda game though. While it was really fun running around with friends in FSA, I think that is best left to the arcadey spinoff Zelda games. I don't want the next big Zelda to be a game like that...

I bought a Wii because it stood out, because it was different, because it represented FUN.

That -- F-U-N -- is the whimsical quality that lacking (IMHO) in the PS3 and Xbox 360. There is not enough there that makes me want to go out and get one. I would have been happy playing my Xbox, PS2, GC, and previous generation and classic consoles. Had Nintendo played the same game, I would not have rushed out to buy one and it is doubtful that it would have sold a quarter as well as the Wii.

As for third-party support, Nintendo was thought to be DOA and then would be dead, so there would not be any. Remember, all these analysts writing the obit for the Wii because it is only outselling the combined competition 2:1 were the ones calling for Nintendo to abandon console hardware and become a multi-platform software seller like Sega.
