Forums - Gaming - Why is no Japenese studio trying to make monster hunter like game?

looking at how huge MH is in Japan it is obvious people like that type of game. For example in west when FPS became big genre everyone was making FPS games and still are. Now we see cover based action games doing great and now every 3rd person game has cover system.

So why is no one at least attemting to "copy cat" Monster Hunter for Japanese market? I really don't get it. Why should there be few games like Monster Hunter?

sega already done that with Phantasy star online and phantasy star universe

Perhaps because they dont see a point. Take a look at Dragon Quest, a lot of devs tried and are trying to copy it do but it just doesnt bring them the same level of success.

It seems to me japanese gamers are very conservative: if they fell in love with some particular franchise they stick with it till the very end even if there is a ton of alternatives. It's useless to try and copy MH.

SE has said FF Agito XIII will have more or less the same gameplay.

Phatasy Star Portable feels pretty similar to me in some ways.

Pretty sure PSO came first. It was a 2000 game, wasn't it?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
