Forums - Nintendo - Wii is doomed...So what?

metalmonstar said:

There is no reason to worry though. Say tommorrow the wii sales drop off to zero. No one wants it anymore. People avoid it like the plague. Will you still play your wii? Will it be any less of a console?

Well if this happens then games would no longer be made for the Wii so I would have to stop playing once I get completely tired of the current games.

I'll take the liberty to answer al your question:-

-Will you still play your wii? no

-Will it be any less of a console? Yes

-Will the wii be a failure?
if it sales drop, and it gets surpassed by its competition, then yes.

-Will it confirm that the wii is a fad?
if it sales just drop out of the blue, and Nintendo are not able to bring them back up, then yes.

-So what if people think the wii is a fad?
it depends on which people, if it's the consumer, then nothing, if it's developers, then it simply means less quality games on the wii.

-Does that make you any less of a person for following a fad?
Yes, if you buy one because of the fad, however no if you bought a games console for the games you like which are on it.

LOL

I really think these articles are causing a real problem.

When so many sources claim the same thing, devs/publishers go along with it, and the industry consensus as a whole thinks the Wii is just a port/mini-game machine..

I don't know if you guys have heard, but this past week, Nintendo's stock dropped several points, and I think their trade dollars or something went from $40 to $31.30. We may not think that these ridiculous articles hold merit, but with such a large presence, they do hold weight.

The funny thing is, these journalists criticizing how the Wii doesn't get good games are a large part of the reason it will continue on not getting any.

SaviorX those are day traders, they tend to have individually various stock and could sell based on a 12 year old with tourrettes opinion.

It could also be just over estimation of the value since that Yen issue not too long ago.

It could be both.

Personally, I love how through all of this, Barron's has come out and said that the stock was "oversold" (I take that to mean sold so much they are now undervalued, compared to the performance and predictions for the company).

I wouldn't particularly care, as long as it had as much support as the GameCube had. Between Nintendo and Sega, GameCube was fine by me.

A restoration of GameCube era normalcy would be nothing upsetting at all.

i think Wii is getting great games in 2009, not that in 2008 it got bad games

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

@dark_gh0st_boy

I'm not saying it has no good games, I'm saying that games that may have been made or were supposed to may have been abandoned because of the hysteria caused by this outrageous, unsubstantiated "news" reports and articles.

I don't think the industry really cares or reads what these articles have to say. I think userbase size and previous game sales dictate how they place their resources.

Even if the wii were to suddenly drop off, Nintendo would still probably support it. Also, as the numbers have shown, it would still be the lead console for a couple years.
