The PS3 controller market is not exactly a crowded one, however, with the Dualshock 3, most people will have all that they need. There are others, though, that may be more comfortable with the 360's controller scheme, and for them the Shadow Wireless from dreamGEAR may be just what they needed.
Form fitting, covered in comfortable rubber grip material, and with better L2 and R2 buttons than the official Sony controllers, the Shadow has a lot to offer the casual PS3 gamer who loves Killzone 2 but doesn't care about most of the other games. I am definitely not that person, but for those who have become used to playing Halo 3 or any other FPS on the 360 will feel more at home with the switching of the left analog and d-pad.
I took this controller through it's paces in a few games, but the ones that it felt best for were all FPS games. Resistance 2, Killzone 2, and Call of Duty 4 all were quite comfortable, though I had to get a little used to where the d-pad was now. The rumble feature was very strong, but not overbearing, and there were not latency issues with control. Comfort was top notch and the responsive controls meant I could play for hours if I had to. There was one problem, however.
Because this is not a Bluetooth device, it uses 2.4 GHz tech which requires a dongle to take up a USB port on the PS3. While this wouldn't normally matter, the fact that you have to use the synch buttons on both quite a bit to get just the first response from the controller is a bit annoying. The good news is that once it is connected you'll have no problems, unless the controller goes into powersave mode, which you could always just turn off as an option in the system menu. Still, I thought something was wrong when first setting it up, but the I realized it was a bit fussy. Thankfully it doesn't interrupt your gaming, so it can be forgiven, unless you're already annoyed from having a bad day or a red-ringing Xbox.
All in all, the Shadow Wireless is not a must buy for everyone, but it does make a interesting and unique addition to the PS3 controller landscape. The price is just about where it should be, and the comfort is a big plus. Still, in these rough economic waters, this might only be just what a handful of folks need.
