I think this is a game you have to try before you jugde. The first impressions do not really, yeah, impress me because of the repetitive gameplay. It sounds like there is no real depth behind it but I'll see. Thanks for the video (huge Whyrem is huge).
I'd rather be a guy with a small sword, who is a quick hunter. He looked like a slow hulking brute right there.
The game looks good. Looking forward to it.

Yea the depth is there, it has a very addicting quality to it.
At first I quit the game because I wasn't winning... I got stuck and Yan-Kut Ku (The very first fake Wyvern) it kept busting my behind, I couldn't afford to make the next weapon, and the parts to make it required me to at least beat the Yan-Kut Ku.
(All the armors and weapons are made from stuff you mine, fish, bug hunt or poach or whatever.)
So I decided to load up on potions and bombs, the whole works for one last ditch effort and failed horribly.
As outlaw said, the camera control really does suck - eventually I got back into the game, and decided to try the Yan-Kut Ku again, then I figured out the formula for some reason, and was able to dodge or block most of his heavy hits and needless to say I was happy with my victory.
To me the first 1 on 1's were always the epic fights, because you don't know what the Wyvern will do, especially the more complex ones that utilize their options like Monoblos or Khezu or even the Diablos.
The engrossment for me comes from the survival feeling. The repetition starts when you have to milk a wyvern for it's stuff so you can make your gear.
With a classic controller I can assume they will be using the Ps2 controls, with the Wiimote I don't have a damn clue what the hell they will do.
The Camera was bad yes, but only because most people were used to the L2 center or a lock on function.
Once you get used to it, you realize how well it works for what the game had to do.
The Camera for the Ps2 version was controlled with the Right analog stick and the Directional pad.
If you were fighting a Khezu and a bunch of bugs and stuff were in the area, you could run with R2+Left Analog while adjusting to keep track of the Khezu which loves to hang upside down from the cave cieling and wipe out bugs if need be.
However, all that functionality isn't needed for taking down something like a Velociprey.
But when your in a jungle area and the foliage is being annoying, that functionally helps again.
Heres some videos. Note that 'm not certain if these moves are all in Tri, but the pattern has been addition and not removal.
I'll look for a more recent ranged one, I know that archers got the ability to charge the shot in the latest versions but I'm not sure of anything else.
The Wyvern that this guy is fighting is White Fatalis, it's a super Wyvern Lao Shan Lung is another one and there's quite a few others.
