But essentially, it's a mission based dungeon crawler with RPG elements. It's winning merit is the animations and the engrossment of it's enviornments.

In monster hunter, if you want to make good potions to heal yourself, you have to find the herbs and honey and all the other materials yourself - the point of the game is kind of passive.

In the first Monster Hunter, the points were to become the best Monster Hunter and a rivalry and revenge as well, NPC's reactions change depending on what you've completed. However there is no set in stone story, other than your essentially a bounty hunter.

The game is what you make of it, there are tuns of things to do, like cooking, mining, fishing and so on, online is where most of the game reveals itself as well.

An example being that this video couldn't show that Monster Hunter has Friendly Fire on at all times, so that's why people don't like great sword users.

(Great swords swing wide and sends team mates flying, but those swords can take down monsters quickly, can gaurd, and you can dodge while using it. The only other weapon nearly as powerful is the Maul, but it's blunt so it can't cut tails and you can't gaurd while using it, meaning you spend most of the time dodging or Head locking.)

lol. People just play the damn game before talking (huge slow weapon, loading times etc). Play a PSP MH game and if you don't like it, don't buy MH3. It certainly is not a game for everyone, believe me.

looks interesting...the loading is annoying if it was included in the full version.

Still, I'll be keeping my eye on this.

MH is certainly only for the hardcore.

Stuff

Well I'd like to believe it's only for the people who enjoy it or more like people who enjoy it are for Monster Hunter.

Clearly though the title isn't very niche, so that's a good chunk of people.

@ dib8rman
Ok, thanks. Well, I'm not that interested in this game but I will test it if it comes to the West.

@outlawauron
I bought MadWorld, I AM hardcore

No, I'd group MadWorld with the GTAs of the world.

I'm talking hardcore in sense of old school hard, frustrating gameplay. It isn't for everyone. I encourage to try any of the PSP versions.

@ dib8rman

It's not niche, it just has dedicated fanbase in the West and a growing one in Japan.

Hold on so he just goes around an open space fighting monsters using a sword? Isn't that dull and repetitive?

Honestly, the really cool parts about the older games were the insanely large whyrems. I remember the first time I met a Rathalos, that was scary stuff, I was doing an egg run mission and the friggin thing just kept homing in on where I would be. Nothing like running from that thing with its egg in your arms.

But whats worse is knowing that eventually I'd fight it, and ever worse than that is fighting something like this:

But I've seen nastier  fights than that MHTri fight, that thing he faught looked more like a drome than an actual Whyrem.
