Forums - Gaming - Remote servers the future of computers/consoles?

Since 2006 i have been thinking about what is next for computers/consoles and since Onlive has been revealed i have began to think about the next wave of computer/console hardware. The more i think about it the more it seems like remote servers are the future. It is cool to see nowadays that TV's are beginning to come with built in internet browsers to connect to things such as youtube and onlive got me thinking

How long until computers (boxes that perform much like onlive) will be built into our HDTV's. The more i think about it the more im convinced this is the future. We will just buy a new TV and then pay X amount of dollars a month to use a computer. There will be no need to upgrade hardware every year or so to play the latest and greatest games. In the end everybody wins.

Obviously there are several things that will keep this from taking off right now such as the lack of fast reliable broadband in many rural areas but once broadband becomes very prevalant and speeds become faster i am convinced that this is the future.

Let me know what you guys think i would love to discuss this

Not the TV, but your TV subscription box. Or your BD live player.

I think it is the future, because the mass market doesn't care about a few frame drops.

Graphics will be so amazing they don't care

but i think it will be built into the tv. as i said ive seen a tv that can connect to youtibe and other video sites. why not just make that into a fullfledged internet browser and do everything from your tv.

I think Onlive might have a lot of Advertising running through it to stay up..and that's if they are a moderate success out the gate..Which I doubt...Steam pretty much already does what they do with an installed base that has a lead..unless some how on live supports STEAM then it's gonna be tough for it to prosper

im not talking about just onlive. Im talking about the concept. Streaming your entire pc software from a remote server is in my opinion the future.

^ I agree, I have a feeling both microsoft and sony will be adopting this technology. Maybe not for 8th gen, but come 9th generation it's likely that our children (Or at least mine) will be streaming the latest kid games from the net.

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

completly agree and thats my thoughts exactly the 8th gen is a bit to early still but come 9th gen this is what SONY and M$ will do (if not nintendo as well).

Laptops are what people want. No one wants to stream the software to their laptop
