Mario has basically been around forever, and only very very few gamers have never played a Mario game, but will he be around for ever and ever, will there ever be a day when games are around, but there are no Mario games (or even no Nintendo)?

I could see him getting milked to the point where everyone looses interest, but that would only happen if Nintendo gets brought by Apple or someone with little experience in the gaming market.
No, because gaming will only end when the world ends, and then obviously there can't be any more games. Mario is no exception.

Even if Ninty died somehow, someone will buy the IP's.
The real question is, what changes will happen to Mario after Miyamoto leaves?
No foreign sky protected me,
No stranger's wing shielded my face.
I stand as witness to the common lot,
survivor of that time, that place.

There will always be Mario. After Miyamoto has died, Nintendo is gone, there would still be someone out to milk Mario.
if sonic can survive 10 years without a decent game, mario can survive at least a century.
as long as nintendo are around mario will be around, if nintendo goes down and someone else buys the mario IP, then mario is in trouble
I have only played Mario Kart and that was only for about 20 minutes.
I suppose I am one of the few who have not got into it.
