Did your friend have a classic controller also? That is the only way to play Super Mario World unless you have a GCN controller. The classic controller button layout for SMW is a lot better though.
so no more heroes, madworld, and mario kart seem to be the games i should get... i guess i can get them after i beat all of my current games, assuming i have the money.
@sethnintendo
i have my GC controller, is the classic worth it though? it looks uncomfortable w/o a grip
Well, I like the classic controller a lot (especially for SF2: Turbo). If you can get it used for 10 or 15 dollars that would be pretty decent if you don't want to throw down $20 for it.

I'll also add that the Gamecube controller kind of sucks to play SNES games, in particular.
mario kart wii
no more heros
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Buy Battalion Wars II (Mario Kart too, but that should be a given tbh)
Oh yeah, RE4 Wii is way better than the GC/PS2 versions.... to be honest it mainly because Resident Evil 4 doesn't work well as a survival horror like the old resident evils, so the further it is taken away from it's gimped survival horror attempt the better it is.
And if you don't like the Wii remote controls for it (which you will) you can plug in a GameCube controller and play it like before, except it is also a good bit harder than the other versions now.... In my opinion though it's not as good.
Oh, and I have survived perfectly well without a classic controller, the only thing it is a slight hindrance to is F-Zero X because attack is on the shoulder buttons, but the GameCUbe ones have analogue which means you have to press them quite far down for attacking or slide/corner-hugs.

Not having the grip isn't too bad either. I also prefer the d-pad on the classic over d-pad on Wiimote. However, I suppose you could use d-pad on GCN controller. If you are going to d/l and play a lot of SNES games then you should probably get at least one classic.
Also, see if your friend has the Wii Shop account linked to his Club Nintendo account. If he does then you should make one yourself and link it to yours. If he doesn't you should make one yourself. If he hasn't then he probably didn't register those games SMG, SSBB, etc. Right now I can only get a Wiimote Holder and there isn't too many good things available for it yet. Hopefully soon there will be nicer prizes though.
