Forums - Gaming - This is probably one of the worst gaming generations of all time for Sony.

No I haven't given up on them. However, I am just hoping they can redeem themselves. This E3 is really their last hope this year to shopw the best they have to offer this year and the near future.

I will consider that when GT5 launches will be Sony's last hope and whatever happens will mark the Plastaytion (at least sales wise) probably for this and the next generation (no matter if it's good or bad)

Give up hope? E3 is their last hope? What the hell are you talking about?

People really don't care what Sony has to offer in regards to software. What always made the PS consoles great was the 3rd party exclusives. But since the PS3 launched for so much they sold less units and  developers had to go else where to peddle their games. If a Playstation console relied on Sony games alone they wouldn't have a chance in hell of being successful.

Tagged so I can read this thread later.

Well, the reason they keep selling PS2 is because it's pure profit at this point. It probably cost them 5-10$ to manufacture the PS2, just like any cheap walmart dvd players. There's no reason for them to kill PS2 at all.

Okay, lets just ignore Sony's MASSIVE first party resources and the great games they constantly pump out....

...Sounds logical enough.

Same goes for Atari when Nintendo came along.... Thing is Nintendo swept them away in on gen... MS didn't hit it right the first time but they're doing an impressive job this time around.

I think atari's problem was the video game crash. Nintendo just picked up the peices after that (and to a much lesser extent, Sega).

I think atari was competing with the intellivision and the colecovision, so nintendo had nothing to do with it. They were just starting to make arcade cabinets.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... The 3rd party games has been main attraction for Sony since the PS1. The first party games are just the gravy.

Don't you think a lot of the big franchises being released on the 360 is having a huge impact on sales?

wasn't that sony choice?

but ps3 ended being too overengineer , not good for stock owners.
kutaragi was a engineer to begin with.
still sony got one of their first party line ups ever this gen, and still getting the third party support, the thing is its not getting them exclusive anymore and 360 its gaining advance from being cheaper.
and microsoft heavy pockets to buy timed exclusives.
even at the 600$ launch price the thing was over 800$ to manufacture, they had a choice to launch and way for the manufacturer cost to go down.
even when they were going to break even last year, the market was hit by a big recession and have delayed that, any profits that they could get, at much they can do that its wait and see if the can pick up steam.

they still got all the third party support.

This gen, Sony's 1st/2nd Parties are far more meaningful than past generations.

What was the biggest hardware mover for the PS3? MGS4 which is 3rd party

What's gonna be the next hardware mover? Final Fantasy XIII which is also 3rd party

Who made the best selling PS3 games? 3rd parties

This is definitely the best games Sony have put out, but their best sellers were heavily bundled games have the best numbers. And others probably aren't having the impact they hoped.

I apologise to the OP as it was tough reading for me. It was formatted nicely enough, I just found it a tough read.

With that in mind I'd have summed up Sony this generation more concisely as follows. This is a terrible generation for Sony financially so far yet at the end of the day they've sold enough consoles to make the PS3 a valuable competitor in the console market and hence along with it's HD twin they've succeeded in winning third party support. As long as a console gets the games, it keeps the gamers happy and thats what matters most to the general public.

Sony will recover from their financial difficulties soon enough anyway so hopefully they'll make a lot of their money back before the end of the PS3's life, they deserve to because it's a wonderful piece of hardware (even if it was initially priced too high for the normal consumer).

Looking up, I suddenly found out why the OP struggled to make a post that was concide and easy to write, I apologise even more now for my initial lazyness.
