Forums - Nintendo - CNET: Is the Wii as affordable as it used to be?

How is Wii Motion Plus, a blue tooth or wired head set, a flight stick, a steering wheel, a balance board, a PSEYE or MS Camera, any more optional or required than any other peripheral... other than batteries.

Depends on the games, doesn't it?

Sixaxis controllers only cost $50, yet the article quotes the DualShock3 price.  Batteries are required for both the Wiimote and the 360 controller, yet those costs are not included in the article.

You could argue that the Wii is cool because of the extensive array of accessory games, and that its really the accessories that drive sales.  Then you'd have to look at it from a "wow the Wii is expensive" viewpoint... but... the consumers paid for it, didn't they?  That's what they wanted?

There is a lot of marketing trickery involved in pricing consoles and profitable accessories.  You could claim that Sony is the "least tricky" simply due to the fact that they include the most, and have the fewest accessories to buy, making the overall cost much clearer (not necessarily cheaper) to the buyer.  But that's about all you can say about it, isn't it?

A console costs as much as you pay for it.  It would take the Big 3 releasing sales # on accessories and fees, for us to truly gauge the cost of the "average" console in consumer hands.

I'm not disagreeing, I'm saying the article is stupid - that each console has a different level of value to each consumer because of things you can do with each console.  I also agree, as I said earlier, that the PS3's batteries make it a good value for some... "by these standards) PS3 becomes the cheapest."

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Don't you need to buy something to go online with ur xbox360 that costs $100?
You also need to pay $5 a month if u want to play games online for xbox360...

So, that article doesn't really make sense.

I don't think the article author is considering online fees, or addressing it at all.

Only if you want to connect wirelessly.  But the same kind of thing applies to the Wii.  You only need tobuy Motion+ if you want to aly Motion+-enhanced games.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

There's a question mark for a reason

But online is really important and especially for an xbox360 user. WM+ is also a lot cheaper compared to all the stuff you need to go online. Another question, how do you go online if you don't want to connect wirelessly? My wii is connected wirelessly and I don't even know if I could connect it differently.

All consoles come with a controller, so why figure the price with an addition 4 controllers? Also the 360 starts at $199 which is meant for customers on a budget.

I'm glad I picked up 4 PS3 controllers $120. Was a steal, Thank you Sam's Club!

You run a landline of twisted pair cable, just like you would with a desktop PC. People without wireless routers can by an adapter which allows their Wii to use this same ethernet cable. Ethernet ports are standard on 360 and PS3.
