Forums - PC - Apple responds to new MS ads

noslodecoy

I agree with your opinions me too i always hated the im a mac ads

they are terrible

apple should learn to just promote their products and showcase what they have to offer without comparisons

i never saw an ipod ad go against sony for example

I respect the fact that M$ does admit that most ppl agree that macs r cool/ nice looking.. and it does have some important points:

HP,SONY and lots of other companies manufacure PC's. So you have 100x more choice

PC's also support blu ray.

more powerful.

cheaper price.

Now compare this to Mac ads that pretty much lambasted PC's and I'd have to say i like MS's ad policy better. It may not be as funny but its defntly honest and more real.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

PsExec (Don't ask)
Somethign that works as well as WinSCP for SCP/SFTP
AirSnort (don't ask)

and other such random crap. I KNOW FILEZILLA IS ON MAC ANF FUGO(sp?). They just weren't as good as winscp I guess, less ease of use lol.

In response to the adverts by Microsoft in which an actor Lauren was given $1000 to spend on a laptop of her choosing, with the precondition that she only consider laptops with 17 inch screens. Her conclusion at the end is that there are no Mac laptops in her price range and she clearly “just not cool enough to be a Mac person.”

The response runs as follows

"Millions of people have switched to Mac because they love the security, stability and power that comes with world-class hardware and amazing software that just works, right out of the box," Apple spokesman Bill Evans, told Macworld. "A PC is no bargain when it doesn't do what you want. The one thing that both Apple and Microsoft can agree on is that everyone thinks the Mac is cool; with its great designs and advanced software, nothing matches it at any price."

- Apple Spokesman Bill Evans

I don't.

I think macs are rediculous, ugly and often extremely overpriced. :p
You can get a pc with the same specs for half the price in many cases.. that's just.. too big of a difference.

Still can't get one for $1000 or under, so this Mr. Evans can suck one

PsExec seems to be a tool that is missing from the whole Unix/Linux world, at least based on quick Googling.

I don't know how well WinSCP works, what makes it so good, but you can either use SCP and SFTP from the terminal in OS X, or you can use one of the various GUI clients at least for SFTP. Fugu is one option.

AirSnort might not have been ported to OS X, but it should be doable since GTK+ has been ported. So, if you don't mind ease of use, you could fiddle around a bit and perhaps manage to port it yourself. Though their homepage said that it's and OLD program and newer and better ones exist, but I didn't bother to check them out.

I'm not trying to argue that there are holes in the OS X program library, but if you're willing to disregard ease of use then a lot of the Linux/Unix programs can be ported. Have you checked out darwinports?

I didn't check darwinports. I just googled "<appName> on/for/whatever mac."

It's amazing, the level of maturity people display when it comes to talk about macs. Do people even realize that the way they act isn't any better than the way Apple elitists act?

I like macs though I don't mind Windows (I happen to quite like XP). If I had the money I would have liked to have the Macbook Pro, 8 hours of battery life sounds good plus they're stylish. I also like the ease of use of their OS and I don't really need peculiar software that's exclusive to Windows. I know pretty good alternatives.

Like I said though, money is the issue... They're very pricey.

Good to see certain people feel the frothing desire to keep hammering Apple. They must feel threatened. Why else go through all this trouble, sheesh, some people here sound like 16th century Christians trying to convert heathens. :s

If people like Apple and Macs, let them. What the heck's it to you, honestly? Must you be so childish as to call a company 'shit', their products 'useless' and express your heartfelt wish to see them go out of business as soon as possible? Silly little things. That alone proves just how childish you really are. Well I've got some news for you guys, Apple is a highly profitable and succesful company, they're not going out of business anytime soon. In fact, their profits have only risen, while most other comparable companies are losing tons of money, including Microsoft.

Yes, there are always going to be people who use their computers for 'hardcore coding' and other such fascinating activities, however 99.99% of the consumers does not. So while Linux or Windows may be a viable solution for aforementioned persons, the average joe will want something that is easy to use and looks nice. Linux is not easy to get into nor does it look nice. No matter how much you confess your love for Linux, the mainstream will never ever use it. Ever. Heck, most people have never even heard of Linux.

Also, at least Microsoft seem to think Apple is onto something, why else would they make their new operating system more and more like OSX?

Last but not least, Apple is a brand name. And a strong brand at that, one of the strongest there is in fact. Everyone's heard of it, whether they like it or not. It's got a cool, sophisticated image, something neither Microsoft nor Linux can claim.
More and more schools, universities and colleges are switching to Macs. The whole of the design industry uses Macs. Macs are, in fact, more durable than standard PCs or laptops. That's a fact. I'm in college, and most of the students there bought laptops at the start of their first year. Quite a few got Macbooks or Macbook Pros. By the second year, more than a quarter of all those laptops had either broken down or were malfunctioning in one way or another. You can say 'yeah well I never have problems blah blah'... well these people did, and it's not like it was just a few exceptional cases. Not everyone is a programming genius or a computer wizard, no matter how simple certain tasks may seem to you. Not a single one of those who got Macbooks experienced any problems at all whatsoever. During that second year, a lot of students replaced their broken or malfunctioning laptops with Macbooks. Some even switched while their laptops were still working fine, because they got to experience Apple's products firsthand.

So, well, yeah. It's obvious several people here just have a severe grugde against Macs and Apple in general. Painfully obvious. I'm not gonna name any names, you know who you are. And I am aware this whole rant is not going to do anything at all, I just wish people would stop being so extremely biased and childish. What are you, 5? :s Just face the facts and accept them: Apple is a strong brand and a hugely populair and extremely succesful company, and one that a lot of other companies are imitating.

Finally, one last thing: do you honestly, truly believe the majority of consumers would choose a regular Linux- or Windows-based computer if Macs were equally expensive? Your answer will probably determine just how biased you are.

Really now.

Because people keep saying Apple is far better than Microsoft's digusting business srategies, which is utterly false, hence the company is shit. Because they keep saying the Macs are amazing, when they don't have the functionality of a Windows/Linux box and cost a decent amount more for the same HW spec, hence why Macs are useless.

Also more and more businesses and schools are oging the way of Linux over Windows, compeltely bypassing Macs. Most people at work just use their Windows to secureCRT into the Linux boxes. Macs have never been mentioned. In fact the few times they were we just spit on them for how horrible they would be at doing what we need things to be done. Same with my school, a huge chunk of the people came in with Macs, by the 2nd year they all have Linux boxes with windows on them.

I won't argue that Apple is a strong brand, it is. However it doesn't deserve its status outside of its MP3 players. Also if Macs were equally expensive, then Macs would gain crapton more marketshare. The problem with that is that Apple doesn't ahve ANY experience with dealing with security, compared with MS' decades. So ultimately for businesses and security they would be a lot worse. All it takes is a few Eastern European hackers to get their hands on them and start exploiting old Unix holes.
