Forums - PC - Apple responds to new MS ads

Macs do work out of the box.

So does any PC.

But with OEM PCs, typically the smartest thing to do is reformat the drive and do a clean install of Windows to delete the bloatware/adware most PCs ship with.

Some of it's actually pretty useful, but most of it isn't. Some of it actually chokes down network connections to the point of being unusable (kasperkey is often the culprit).

bloatware eh? fair enough, but i would think thats more of a problem resulting of a larger marketshare - being that if apple were to be much bigger (read: other computer companies making MAC enabled models) then i would think that said bloatware would come natively installed on any Mac computer not distributed through apple. but alas - thats a hypothetical, im not allowed to use those.

um..stuff

Poor apple, feeling scared.

Mac rules!1!!1!!

...Wait, you are talking about this Mac, right?:

@ vlad - Ok, I shall respond - it doesn't have the software library that Windows has, but (ignoring games) there are very few programs on Windows that don't have a mac equivalent - the main ofshot of Windows's larger software library is that instead of having a choice of 8 different word processors you now have 80. So what. No, the majority of software for mac is not open source, which is a shame I suppose.

However, the mac OS itself is very advanced compared to any form of Linux or Windows. As examples, the use of spotlight, multiple virtual desktops (yes, I know linux has these too, the dock and expose make everydayy use of a Mac so much more pleasant than other OS's. It's also a lot easier to install and update programs on a Mac than it it with Windows. I can provide you with more of these advanced Mac features if you care.

Oh, so now I'm paying 500 extra for the OS? Because... it feels better? Also btw I hate the dock. Little jumping icons or all my apps staying down there. I just really hate the concept. Also, expose is worth 500 bucks? Oh man, you sold me there! I've also never had problems either installing or updating, unless it's drivers (which applies heavily to linux).

You said it yourself, most Windows things have Mac offshoots. But there a bunch obscure apps that don't, even when you exclude the games. And I'm glad we agree on the Linux part. So you are askig me to pay 500 because the OS is nicer but has absolutely NO benefits of either and the downfalls of both (doesn't ahve windows library like linux, but neither is it as open as linux) without a benefit of either? Yeah... that won't fly.

I haven't had a problem with a virus or malware since... I dare say 2003. Maybe 2004. I forget when I caught my last bad malware.

@gameover

No. Just no. Macs are not better by any stretch of the imagination. They lack software, they are not open. As I stated above, why am I paying so much money? Flashing lights and smoke? No thank you. Owning a Mac has no benefits. In fact I'd be more restricted if I bought a mac .  You want me to pay more so I can do less? I love Apple's PR.

As for your software point, you are right to a certain extent, the main reason Mac OSX is more secure than XP is more to do with a lack of internet explorer and most virus's targeting windows. Vista is less secure obviously due to the whole windows defender thing. Stability arguably could be due to simple bug testing of Apple programs, but I don't really know enough to comment.

People that get viruses get them because of their own fault.  You can safely go around the internet without a virus program as long as you're not an idiot.  Don't download random shit from random sites, and stay away from the porn or any other site that spams you with adverts.

You don't have to be a whiz to not get a virus or malware, you just have to be not a dipshit.

@vlad321 is not about being BETTER

is about getting MORE

because unless u are living under a rock the last 3 years macs are pcs too

so is so pointless to compare pcs and macs anymore

how many times will we say it? u can run windows and linux native in mac

so u are actually comparing a pc with a pc that has osx too

please..

we mac users have a reason to use macs

u say u dont have software?

what software? everything runs on macs

even under virtualization or native

you give me logic pro in pc

where is it?

and btw

@vlad

"""Macs suck for 1 reason. They are in between Windows and Linux. Has downfalls of both and none of the benefits. Completely useless and utterly shitty. It neither has the software lbrary my WIndows does, yet it's nowhere near as open as my Linux boot. Quite fail really...."""

LOL

u have NO idea what are u talking about?

any mac can have LINUX AND WINDOWS just like you

and can have OSX too

this is a joke

people write here without knowing shit about macs
