scottie said: @ vlad - Ok, I shall respond - it doesn't have the software library that Windows has, but (ignoring games) there are very few programs on Windows that don't have a mac equivalent - the main ofshot of Windows's larger software library is that instead of having a choice of 8 different word processors you now have 80. So what. No, the majority of software for mac is not open source, which is a shame I suppose.
However, the mac OS itself is very advanced compared to any form of Linux or Windows. As examples, the use of spotlight, multiple virtual desktops (yes, I know linux has these too, the dock and expose make everydayy use of a Mac so much more pleasant than other OS's. It's also a lot easier to install and update programs on a Mac than it it with Windows. I can provide you with more of these advanced Mac features if you care.

Oh, so now I'm paying 500 extra for the OS? Because... it feels better? Also btw I hate the dock. Little jumping icons or all my apps staying down there. I just really hate the concept. Also, expose is worth 500 bucks? Oh man, you sold me there! I've also never had problems either installing or updating, unless it's drivers (which applies heavily to linux).
You said it yourself, most Windows things have Mac offshoots. But there a bunch obscure apps that don't, even when you exclude the games. And I'm glad we agree on the Linux part. So you are askig me to pay 500 because the OS is nicer but has absolutely NO benefits of either and the downfalls of both (doesn't ahve windows library like linux, but neither is it as open as linux) without a benefit of either? Yeah... that won't fly.
I haven't had a problem with a virus or malware since... I dare say 2003. Maybe 2004. I forget when I caught my last bad malware.
@gameover
No. Just no. Macs are not better by any stretch of the imagination. They lack software, they are not open. As I stated above, why am I paying so much money? Flashing lights and smoke? No thank you. Owning a Mac has no benefits. In fact I'd be more restricted if I bought a mac . You want me to pay more so I can do less? I love Apple's PR.
