Modern Warfare 2 vs Killzone 2 - FPS giants go Head to Head in 2009
The battle for best FPS of the year has already begun, with 2009 seeing major titles such as the already released much anticipated PS3 exclusive 'Killzone 2', and other great titles like FEAR 2. However it is most probably certain in most gamers minds that the best FPS of the year will be in contention from only 2 major blockbuster titles, and they are Killzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2.
Why?
The reason I have chosen these two FPS games, one already released and the other looking at a holiday release, is because it is most certainly going to be a battle between the two, Guerrilla Games have created their most endearing ambition in the form of Killzone 2, the game looks great, in fact saying "Killzone 2 looks great" might be the understatement of the year, the game looks astounding, plays great and comes packed with a major online multiplayer sector that will keep gamers playing none stop. There was doubt, but it's safe to say that Killzone 2 lived up to the hype gamers put on it.
Modern Warfare 2 on the other hand is pretty straight forward, the first game, 'Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare', won 'Game of the Year' on numerous websites and magazines, I think it's safe to say Infinity Ward have a formula that works the magic, how do you improve on a masterpiece? you make it better. Simple.
And looking at Infinity Wards claims that Modern Warfare 2 will be the biggest entertainment product of the year, It's probably safe to say the game has made a number of strides from the first game, and is shaping up nicely.
Who Do I reckon will win?
Firstly, there are no real winners, games will be enjoyed by different people, some people's tastes will be different, however that said, I think, and let me stress the word 'think', (seeing as people love reading deep into what I write) again, I think Modern Warfare 2 will be the winner of the virtual battle, why? here are my reasons:
Firstly the guys at Infinity Ward already have a major online base, they already have millions of gamers who at the very mention of Modern Warfare 2, become weak at the knees. They have an already 'Tried and Tested' multiplayer system that has proven it's longevity.
Secondly, It appeals to more people, yes you might find this hard to believe but Modern Warfare 2 will appeal to a larger crowd of gamers worldwide, because of the more 'Pick-up and Play' control scheme that takes very little time to master, contrast to Killzone 2's more weighty feel.
and Thirdly, the game is multiplatform, it will ship on a number of platforms meaning once again it will gain a far greater reach, more people will buy it, therefore more will be playing it online, and that gives it a greater chance at winning.
Still one must not rule Killzone 2 out, considering we have not seen anything yet, from Infinity Ward we cannot jump the gun, Killzone 2 is a great shooter and has just as strong a chance at winning the award for the 'Best First Person Shooter of the Year'
