It's a continuation of a pair of awful PSP Diablo clones and is not a game that anyone should be boarding the hype train for--it'll likely derail spectacularly, killing all aboard.

good metaphor, but it's not like this one is destined to be bad. But even if it is how can online co-op, hundreds of quests and action rpg gameplay be all that bad?
"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."
"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."
PSP graphics lol, I'm not a big graphics whore but it matters to me when it's RPG so helllllz no!

It sounds impossible, doesn't it? But, then, you go and play it on PSP and...there it is...twice.
Looks like it has potential and online co-op is a huge plus for me.
I'm not thirsty enough to drink the haterade yet so I'll wait and see what happens.
| Soriku said: http://gonintendo.com/?p=79584#comments Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga - a few more details- Supports classic controller I really hope this game gets localized. That front has been quiet for awhile now. Link |
1. Sloppy controls.
2. Terrible graphics/frame rate. (These games love very muted, washed-out colors and you can hear the PSP GPU creaking under the weight of the mostly ugly battle scenes.)
3. Horrible camera.
4. Hellishly repetitive, boring levels and the method of returning to the hub and then getting back out in the field is just laughably-implemented, i.e. if you do warp back to town, you have to walk all the way back to the point you were at previously which depending on how deep you are, can take forever. (Which, incidentally is also part of the level design in that you need to unlock the 'shortcuts' through the levels as you head deeper in--if you miss any, well, strap on your pack and keep walking and walking and walking...)
5. Lousy loot.
6. AI partners are braindead or cannonfodder thus requiring you to level up that much more to meet the challenge.
7. Grind-fest of epic, epic proportions (made all the worse due to the preceding flaws).
8. The game requires two passes to truly beat it, much like shoot 'em ups and Ghosts 'N' Goblins which makes all of the preceding near-maddening.
And let me be clear: I love these types of games--set me down in front of Record of Lodoss War (DC); PSO/U; Monster Hunter; Diablo; Shining Wisdom; Etrian Oddysey et al; etc. and I won't be back to familiar reality for weeks/months/years at a time. But this? Oof, just about the worst specimen(s) of the genre in a good decade (it's as if the designers have never played any of the classics and just kicked out a half-assed effort and/or were banking on just nabbing a few, desperate, Monster Hunter fans that had finally grown tired of that gem.)
That all said, it's entirely possible they could totally revamp the core gameplay, level design, hell, everything for Wii, but, since they have already done a sequel on PSP that addressed none of these complaints, I wouldn't hold my breath.
And if I sound down on it, it's because I am and because I don't want people getting over-hyped on another game like, say, Fragile which hype turned into the Wii's last, great, hardcore hope and turned out to be a very mediocre game.
| Soriku said: Fragile was the Wii's last hardcore hope? lol wut. Besides, I heard Fragile only has mediocre gameplay but everything else is good -_- |
I was exaggerating--my point is that a lot of peole went on and on and on about how good Fragile is/was (and not just around here) before it was released and it turned out to be pretty lousy in just about every area--I know this becaue I bought and played a lot of it in the vain hope that it would suddenly become a good game...and it isn't...at all.
(And as for having bad gameplay, uh, isn't that the point of a game? If everything else is unreal and the gameplay is meh, then it's a bad game in my book.)
