Forums - Sony - Why id Software’s Rage Will Shine on the PS3

It has been already stated in a interview with John C that the PS3 version will be one disc while the Xbox 360 will be 2 discs.  He also said that the PS3 version will have slightly better textures do to the fact that that they do not want to use more then 2 discs on the xbox because of microsofts multidisc fee

yeah it will probably 2 dvds

Did you see the part where the game's 100gbs?  Compression can only go so far.  Considering that a dev only has access to 6.9 of the gigabytes on a 360 DVD, they probably couldn't fit the same quality game onto two DVDs--it'll definitely be more, unless ID decides to spring the extra cash for those expensive 20gb DVDs.  And I'm one of the ones who believes Metal Gear Solid 4 could easily be ported to the 360 with minimal quality loss.

Actually they use dual layer dvds that have about 14 gigs of space, so i'm guesssing 3 discs if it really does take up a 100gigs,

i hope they allow 360 users to download all the discs to their 360 and just need to have the first disc in as proof.

This will probably be the only game of it's kind this generation as the ID Tech 5 is primarily a Next-Gen Tech according to ID, so yes the PS3 will benefit more because of Blu-ray, having the whole game on one disk, but this one game is the exception not the rule of this generation of gaming, I just don't see many developers this generation making a 80gig game.

I think by 2010 and later, more and more games are going to easily go over 30+ GB.. so if PS3 really have 8 - 10 yr lifecycle than i believe it will definitely benefit.. and they will not be in a hurry to put up new console.. I believe this is one thing which will also add on MS to release next gen console due to its limitation by 2011 or atmost 2012...

I said eighty gigs not thirty, I believe this generation most developers will not use more than 25gigs for games no PS3 games have used more than a single layer Bluray disk which maxes out at 25 gigs, with the exception of metal gear solid 4 which was a technical mess, (not the game, the coding and load times) and I believe metal gear solid 4 could have fit on a 25 gig bluray disk if it was coded properly.

LittleBigPlanet was 40GB because of all the tutorial videos....

What about MGS4 made you think it was a technical mess??? Not much load times were involved... or are you talking about the installs??? Because that shouldn't count as loading... 7.1 Audio and 2 games in one could be the reason for the size you know [MGS4+MGO]...

4 ≈ One

The PC version will probably be 100 gb uncompressed

Probably not, i'm guessin PS3 will have the edge in performance and graphics by a little bit, and xbox  version will have multiple discs.
