Not that I know of..but Nintendo's always been a conservative, secretive company.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Wii sales aren't that bad considering the quality of the titles they're releasing.

Play my LittleBigPlanet level: Mystic Runner. Thanks!

Wii is doing bad because they've sold the most consoles in the region and PS3 beat them out by a couple thousand for a few weeks?

Sounds like Satoru Iwata is being a little dramatic to me..I think Wii is fine there, they just need games for it. Wii doesn't have a lot of top 10 games ever..they've had a few, but by far majority goes to DS, PSP, and PS2/PS3 at this point. Wii's usual games do OK - sports, mario kart, etc - they just need more good 3rd party games.

3rd party has been a problem for the Wii since it's inception, but Japan is a much easier market to get profit out of 3rd party..Yakuza 3 looks amazing, but they're really happy with only 500k sales. Making low budget games shouldn't be hard, and the Japanese market should be easy to pinpoint in terms of what types of games would sell, I'd think.

The Wii is starting to lose a bit to the PS2's historic trend in Japan. Of course, a lot of that is because of the big switch to handhelds. Still, it has outsold the PS3 roughly 5:2 without anything new -- no price cut, no new colors, no new game bundles (the Wii does not come with a game in Japan, so the Wii Sports purchases are actual full retail sales in that market).

By the way, the comments referenced in the OP were made almost a week ago.

Note the 8M number of sales in Japan listed in this article (from AFP).

off-topic:
Why isn't Mike at least considered a contributer? This may be a little premature on my part, but his opinion is something I've always respected because he only talks about what he knows about, is very factual, always backs up his points and is rarely ever wrong. I think, in my opinion of what I've read from various people on this site, that he's one of the most intellectual people on here. I respect his opinion more than over half the mods - no offense, but very VERY VERY few people on this site show the maturity that he does..I'd say DKII, Brett, Benga and maybe 1 or 2 others have as well formulated arguments and opinions as Mike, but he posts much more than any of them besides maybe Benga Benga.

Just curious, did they ask you and you turn it down or something Mike? You should at least get the dark-blue name=P

In Japan, the Wii has nearly sold as many units as the last two Nintendo consoles combined and is already the 8th best selling vg hardware with plenty of life left. There is nothing fail about it. It's in the midst of a rough patch. Everything is. It's a recession.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

No console is doing too well in Japan at the moment, it is just the 360's complete failure that makes the PS3 and Wii look better. I mean, the 360 is being outsold by a console that is 9 years old. That is pathetic.

The PS3 and Wii are doing average, but TBH I expected better from both of them. However, it'll pick up in a few months (if) the economy recovers and more games are released.

^^Seconded, Mike is a wonderful poster.
