Who didn't play soccer as a kid? It's pretty much the first sport every parent puts their kid in. (Yes even in the US.)

.... D:

Note that Football is an abreviation of what Soccer/Football is called.

Assosiation League Football.

Soccer is an abreviation of this as well.  Both are correct.

It's like how people call America both "The United States" and "America."

Football is amusingly the "America" in this situation since Rugby is short for

"Rubgy Football"

So... There is less wrong with calling it soccer then there is calling it football.  In the same way people complain that people who call the USA America aren't counting for other countries in America.

If you continue to call it football you shouldn't complain when people call the United States "America."

*face palm*

Please, let's not have that old discussion. Let's stay on topic.

Another USA World Cup. Should they be allowed to host it or not? :/

Who was reffering to the US calling that sport football?  I was simply reffering to the somewhat incorrect usage of the term football that is mostly standard around the world.

Also... that is on topic.  Suggesting that the US should have to change what it calls the game to a slightly incorrect abbreviation is silly when the US abbreviation is more accurate and appropriate.

I still don't get why we call it Soccer, who came up with that one?

"The rules of football were codified in England by the Football Association in 1863, and the name association football was coined to distinguish the game from the other forms of football played at the time, specifically rugby football.

The term soccer originated in England, first appearing in the 1880s as a slang abbreviation of the word "association", often credited to former England captain Charles Wreford-Brown.[46]"

So... it was originally an English term but they decided to go with a slightly less correct abbreviation.  Defeating the whole reason it was called association football in the first place.

Though as stated it is off topic.

Also... as for the US getting a World Cup.

I'm more of a fan of the "Give it to a third world country" model that drums up tourism and really helps the country out.

Countries like the US and Western Europe should instead be picked as secondary hosts to play "Bakcup" just in case the country chosen can't get it together.

World Cup will get people to go to places you couldn't pay them to go to regularly.

IMO USA should be allowed to host the World Cup if they build new Football Specific Stadiums (FSS).

Artificial turf = No No.

Aslong as the Socceroos qualify I couldn't care less where it is.

The 'Socceroos' qualified for Germany 2006 by playing tiny Oceanian countries, right?

Why new ones?  We've already got a ton of soccer specific stadiums.  Like 9 for MLS alone by 2011... and likely a lot more if the proposals for the others get accepted.

There are tons of other non artificial turf stadiums out there.  The artificial turf ones are just the legendary stadiums.

OK, that explains a lot!

Yeah, but a few huge good ones would need to be relatively close together as teams wouldn't be able to fly around the country just to get to a stadium that can accomodate more than 40'000 people at the very least.

Kasz216

MLS stadiums are all really small with a low seating capacity.

The NFL stadiums are not "dense enough" for football. They are to open and haven't got that intimate feel
that football stadiums should have. People are to far away from the action or seated way up back.
Also, Football specific stadiums = Great acoustics.
