A lot has been said about WiiWare not offering demo's, and I see both compelling reasons why Nintendo might be on the right track and the wrong one.
The problem with demo's can best be seen on my iphone/touch. I have tons of free demos, but very rarely buy any of them. That's not because the games aren't good, a lot are. And its not because I mind paying for games, I dont. But instead of playing a full game for a few dollars, I find I like to play lots and lots of trials. I do buy a few that I would never have expected to, but I don't buy quite a few things that I would have had there been no demo.
Now on Wiiware, because there are no demos, I do buy games. I have to. That's why Nintendo does it. BUT, I only buy titles I am sure of, and that has left games like the Art Style ones out of my library. I know most people say they are good, I probably would have at least tried them if there had been a demo. However, it might be like my iPhone. I might have played lots of demos and bought very few.
There has to be middle ground. I think the DS demo method would solve most of the worries Nintendo has. Just have a game demo load in temp memory instead of saving it to disc and the wii menu. To play the demo again you would have to redownload it. Super inconvenient. This lets you try it, help them sell the full game.
Apple should do this too. I would've bought a lot more for my phone that way. And if that worked, I bet Live and PSN would follow....
What do you think?
