Forums - Nintendo - to demo or not to demo

A lot has been said about WiiWare not offering demo's, and I see both compelling reasons why Nintendo might be on the right track and the wrong one.

The problem with demo's can best be seen on my iphone/touch. I have tons of free demos, but very rarely buy any of them. That's not because the games aren't good, a lot are. And its not because I mind paying for games, I dont. But instead of playing a full game for a few dollars, I find I like to play lots and lots of trials. I do buy a few that I would never have expected to, but I don't buy quite a few things that I would have had there been no demo.

Now on Wiiware, because there are no demos, I do buy games. I have to. That's why Nintendo does it. BUT, I only buy titles I am sure of, and that has left games like the Art Style ones out of my library. I know most people say they are good, I probably would have at least tried them if there had been a demo. However, it might be like my iPhone. I might have played lots of demos and bought very few.

There has to be middle ground. I think the DS demo method would solve most of the worries Nintendo has. Just have a game demo load in temp memory instead of saving it to disc and the wii menu. To play the demo again you would have to redownload it. Super inconvenient. This lets you try it, help them sell the full game.

Apple should do this too. I would've bought a lot more for my phone that way. And if that worked, I bet Live and PSN would follow....

What do you think?

I think is the opposite to me, I'd would buy more games if Nintendo provides demos, if I like a game after playing a demo I will buy it, I would not be satisfied just playing a 15 or 20 minute demo and replay them all over again, I would like to play the whole thing ..

Now that Nintendo has included SD cards for streaming data.. Now what Nintendo has to do is provide demos for download either to the channels or to the SD card..

Example: Go to shop channel > wii demos > pick demo > download to a channel or to SD card > play demo from channel or from SD card ..

i kinda agree... ive demoed a few PS3 games and just kept the demo...
iron man, for instance. you can play a whole level. good level.

I think they SHOULD offer a demo, just not have it DL to the Wii or SD card. Make easy to play once, a pain to replay a demo so you buy instead....

An easy to replay demo can hurt sales of the game, no demo is even worse. For full release games too. Marble Saga would be a popular Wii game with a demo, it will never be without. Madworld would do much better with a short demo. Especially if it was a big DL every time you want to play the demo...

I personally think that Microsoft has hit every nail perfectly in for their online service. I just wish Nintendo would use Microsoft's plan, but Nintendo wants to do their own thing... I'm just tired of feeling that they're way behind in the times.

I much prefer having demos. With so many games on the market, it's hard to know which are good and which are bad. You can only rely on summaries of others so much; demos would surely add in sales in my opinion

If Nintendo would get afraid that people would play the same trial over and over again, they can make it last for a limited amount of time, (but long enough for new people to play) like the DS demos for the Wii, or make the demos really short but with different levels to play from, like the demos in Brawl.

IMO, I don't think demos should be what Nintendo needs to focus mainly for now.

I knew demos are an excellent tool that is really under represented today.

I love trying my games before I spend my hard earned money on them.

1 minute demos or a little longer like they do with the master piece demos on super smash bros brawl.
