And I think I'll add that Call of Duty is also bigger than Halo.

Yeah cause it's muliplatform.

Why does that matter?

Because Halo 3 would sell better if it was mutiplatform, same goes for Killzone 2 and metal gear solid 4.

WW = GT
America = Halo

Halo 3 Others > GT4 America

GT closely following.

So if GT is popular in America Halo is popular in Others

Gran Tursimo has lots of popularity in Japan and Others as well. Why is Japan always ignored in these discussions?

GT in Japan ranges from 1 - 3 million, if you think it can do anywhere near 3 million in Japan whent he userbase has just hit that number then Id like some of what you're smoking.

Tell me then, what does Halo do in Japan? O_o

Not very well, I don't think anyway has claimed Halo has any presence in Japan though.

Basically

GT - Others (somewhat Japan)

Halo - America

Halo 3 will settle anywhere between 12 - 14 million by the end of this gen .. All people have to go on is GT5P and just because that did well doesn't mean the full game will sell 4X that.

AsI said, in America it's Halo hands down. In the rest of the world it's Gran Turismo.

but if Halo 3 has done 3 million (not likely to stop there) and no GT has done much more than that in Japan .. why does GT have Japan and Halo doesn't have Others?

Is Halo a more popular franchise in Others? I don't believe it is, but I could be wrong.

The highest selling Halo game in PAL (Halo 3) did 2.55 million. The lowest selling GT game in PAL (GT2) did 3.7 million.

I think we got some ownage.

Hardly, way to completely miss the point, I never claimed Halo 3 was bigger in Others than GT. Maybe you should reread before trying to own.

Oh really? So tell me, if it were multiplatform, who would publish it? It sure wouldn't be Microsoft, who threw down the biggest advertising campaign ever on that title. So less advertising=selling more.

I know but that was a bigger difference than I thought!

@ Goonydude

I'm still not seeing how CoD being multiplatform disqualifies it.

It should not  disqualify it. the fact is that CoD4 has a bigger fan base then Halo 3...but the point i think is that CoD4 does not hurt Halo 3 as much as it hurts FPS tittle on PS3

But this is a fight between one exclusive and another, not a multiplatform and exclusive.

Halo is more popular for the simple fact that its a big franchise with an actual character.

 A person that knows bare minimum in gaming would probably have a higher chance of knowing the halo series compared to the GT series because of MC.

I just asked my sister, who is a casual gamer (...barely, but I'd put her in the category of someone who knows a "bare minimum" about video games) about Master Chief, and her response was "who the hell is that?"

Halo is obviously very popular, but I don't think MC has been around long enough to be an iconic character compared to the likes of, say, Solid Snake or Lara Croft. Maybe in five years.

That said, I'm not sure the average [American] person would be aware of GT, either (though if you asked them to name one racing game, GT would probably be the franchise mentioned).
