I would rather they fix the problem than extend the warranty, but glad to see they did the right thing.

Get real man, microsoft fixes it for free, my launch 360 died on me a little after 2 years, I sent it to microsoft and got it back in less than a week and it works like new, it sounds like they put in new innards.

Microsoft fixing it, frees the customer of thinking they will have to buy another 360 or pay any money if it breaks, so therefore the RROD or the E74 shouldn't scare anybody to not get a 360 unless they dread not playing games for a week or two which to me means they have a real problem.

And if you dread you're launch 360 dying after the warranty, the thing is dirt cheap, all you to do is buy another 360 Arcade for $199 and put you're previous hard-drive on it. In 2 years the 360 Arcade should be $99 which is like in 2010, so if you're warranty goes up in 2011 you can get a 360 Arcade for $99.

If you can buy a 360 in the first place you can buy another one 3 YEARS LATER if you're console breaks out of warranty.

So I don't want to hear anything about anything holding back anyone, it's sounds like non-sense to me.

I think they are making their engineers work hard to fix it, but there is only so much they can do.

I just hope that the inevitable 360 slim wont need an extended warranty.

I f'ing knew that the E74 was basically a RROD, but whatever, I have my 360 back it's all in the past. At least I can feel confident about getting my 360 replaced if it gets a E74 again...

Nobody goes - 'oh good, more problems but they've expended the warranty again, that's all I've been waiting for let me buy one'.

I doubt it's going to hurt MS much as overall the coverage has been tiny next to RROD - but it can't help them that's for sure.

@ reasonable - I don't think Jeronimo was trying to claim that the occurance of E74 and then the extended warranty would boost sales over what they would have been without either.

He is trying to say that now that E74 has already happened, and its effect on hardware sales occured, this new event should then boost hardware sales by reducing the ongoing impact of E74 on hardware sales

Only a dumb would do that. If microsoft refuses to pay it, you just need a towel and a DVD to cook your 360 at the point that it will ROD...

Simple, clean and you get a shinny new X360 maybe with updated hardware.
