apple does kinda do that with flash ram they buy so much it bends prices.... also they bought up a few arm chip designers (what powers ipods/iphones and crusie missles) .... oh and what become osx was once Nextstep.... um and Itunes it was someone elses..... final cut too..... hmmm and that new distributed version of final cut was a more recent aquisition ....
dont get me wrong i love apple but the go out and buy then improve and release alot of times even the original mac os was part of a purchase deal for stock from xerox.

Itunes was indeed based on code that was purchased.
I have no idea about Final Cut, but you're probably right.
